This is not a matter of whether or not the person/company is a jerk who owns the image. The truth of the matter is, they OWN the image. I would be really pissed if someone had our studio logo tattooed onto them, for instance.
It was designed by my head artist and tattooed onto his wife. It is not even REGISTERED, however copyright laws still apply. Would I make them remove it? Probably not, but would seek monetary damages. Furthermore, the artist could also pursue this.
Edit notes:
I have studied copyright laws as well - I run an association. "Fair use" does not cut it.
Marisa DiMattia, attorney, writes:
"Fair use of a copyrighted work ... for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research, is not an infringement of copyright. [U.S. Copyright Office, copyright.gov]"
The willful tattooing of someone else's property does not fall under fair use.

i actually have a friend who's family owns a very famous product and i said something about having a tattoo of that product (not in reference to me having one or anything) but he was immediately like "i'd sue them, copyright infringement." they could probably win a lawsuit to atleast make you have to pay for the use of the copyrighted logo or have a court order to have it laser removed. it doesn't matter if you're not profiting from it. just like movie piracy, even copying it for your own use in your own home is still illegal and punishable by jailtime and fines.

Just when I thought I had heard it all. A tattoo, a drawing , a doodle on your own body can not get you sued. Although that being said anyone can sue anyone over anything.

yes there are copyright laws but i think tattoos should be safe and fall under the fair use clause.
plus I don't think a judge in his right mind would see a case concerning a tattoo unless it was such an obvious use of the logo and whatnot..I am sure there would be certain circumstances but I think you would be safe.

you are not using the image as your own or using it as advertisement. you will be ok. also, tattooing on yourself isn't mass media and it's nonprofit. it's part of "fair use" in copyright law.
it's all good.

i wouldn't think so, as you aren't passing the image as your own, you're just using it, and you aren't earning money from the image. but don't rely on me! i'm no lawyer.
