Yes, before you call them back get a cheap policy. Even though your company isn't going to pay, they will need to get your company information . You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.

In certain states you are required to have insurance...in some states you have to pay a certain amount of money stating that you don't have insurance coverage.
Check your local DMV website for further insurance information.
As for your insurance company, you should let them know because they will fight on your behalf to get the damage repaired, etc. You won't have to deal with it, especially if you have a good insurance company.

I know that in the state of California, if you do not have insurance then you are technically in violation of the law. Which means that you are not entitled to reimbursement, you are the one that is determined "at fault" automatically, whether or not you physically caused the accident. In essence, the way they (California Insurance Board)see it..you have no right to be on the road at all simply because you have no insurance.
I know this is not good news for you, especially if you ARE in California..if you are in another state, you should get a hold of you local state agency to be sure of your rights. Good luck!

Most insurance companies won't increase your premium if you were legally parked and were not in your car. Slustephi was wrong. You do not need insurance to collect, however you might want them to make sure that the city isn't tring to screw you.

If you didn't have insurance at the time your car was hit, and you try to collect any money, ....... you will be charged for not having insurance identification in possession. You will be fined and have points added to your driving record. Do you have a license, I hope? Otherwise, you will get charged for that as well.

You need to provide proof of insurance because if you don't have coverage, your vehicle should not have been out of your driveway, and the city's insurance company may fail to pay because of that.

with most insurance companies, even if you were at absolutely no fault at all, they still raise your rates and need to know about all accidents that occur with your car. it sucks, I know, especially when you had nothing to do with it! i sincerely hope that you can get this all settled without involving your ins. co. Good Luck!
