Yes, the procedure entails putting a type of rubber band around the top of your stomach, reducing the volume it can hold, so you fill up faster & eat less. Besides the general risks of surgery you also run the risk of not getting enough vitamins/minerals/nutrients since you are eating so much less & you are also not learning about how to eat properly unless you also work with a nutritionist (which may be one of the requirements for post-operative care). Before you seriously consider this, you need to consult with a FEW (i.e. more than two) physicians who perform the procedure to really hear the pros & cons. It would also be a good idea to meet with a few people who have undergone the surgery to get their viewpoint. While it may eventually be the best choice for you, don't go there because you are looking for an easy and/or quick route to weight loss.

I think you're confused. You've probably heard of the Vertical banded gastroplasty (VGB) or the Lap-band and thought it was a rubber band. They are both forms of bariatric (weight loss) surgery.
