Multivitamins cover nutritional bases. They're a good addition to a healthy diet, but not a substitute for one.

A multivitamin would be beneficial for a couple of different reasons: (1) If your diet is so low in calories that you are not meeting your recommended daily allowanced for specific vitamins/minerals. (2) If you are eliminating food groups from your diet. Even though a multivitamin will help supplement your diet, it is just that...a supplement. Science is unsure as to whether isolated nutrients found in vitamins have the same effect on our bodies as potentially synergistic effects of food (for instance if the vitamin C from an orange is enhanced because of the other nutrient found in the same orange). I often tell my patients that if they are going to GNC for a specific product, to just kind of ingore the salespeople...they're job is to try to get you to buy as much as you can.
