The Royal Marines go through a 9 month period of training before they are awarded the Green Beret and a high percentage fail completely or have to be recoursed. It is extremely tough indeed and, as a result, the Royal Marines are, arguably, the most efficient and disciplined fighters in the world.
I think I am right in saying that the US marines have an 8 week basic training course. They are not known for their cool or their discipline but, having said that, some are incredible brave.

And people wonder why the Iraqis want the American troops out of Iraq. They should have left Sadaam Hussein in power but with a democratically elected Parliament to run the country. This would have solved all the problems, ans all the troops would have been out of there long ago.

Obviously the dog was out of line. Imagine, barking at an American Marine. I think the dog was very fortunate; the entire Marine deployment could have fired at it. Mind you, most of them would have missed so, on balance, I think the dog was just unlucky.

Nice one lance4uo.... That just about sums it up really. As an ex British Army para, i'd sooner have Royals backing me up than American marines. At least i'd only have to worry about bullets coming from one direction.

Since he didn't kill the family I say he was restrained...Anyway you don't need a dog distracting you from the suicide bomber hiding near by.
P.S. What has this to do with Royal Marines?

AMERICAN MILITARY WISDOM, aim towards the enemy,
(instructions on a rocket launcher )
aslipping gear could let your m203 grenade launcher fire when you least expect,
that would make you quite unpopular with whats left of your unit,
TRACERS WORK BOTH WAYS, us army ordenance
try to look unimportant, they may be low on amo,(infantry journal)
if the enemy is in range so are you (infantry journal)
when the pin is pulled,mr grenade is not our friend (us marine corps)
cluster bombing from b52s is very very accurate, the bombs are guaranteed to always hit the ground,(usaf ammo troop)
it is not advisable to bail out over the place you have just bombed (usaf)

Simple - The Royal Marines are taught to THINK before they open fire, they are also taught that one bullet is enough to do the job, they are also taught CONTROLLED aggression. Finally Britsh soldiers train with LIVE AMMUNITION from the moment they are give a gun - this teaches them to respect their weapon and what it can do.
Americans .................are not.
