I want to do some big streaks on my dark brown hair so I went to buy the bleach cream at Sally's. This lady at the counter told me that the longer I wait when I put the bleach on my hair the lighter the streaks would get. Is that true? I mean I don't want them like really white, just a lil bit blonde. Any other advice before I do this?

I highlighted my hair one time, and have dark brown hair like you. What i did was i took a piece of hair from the back of my neck, and added the dye mixture to it, checking every 10 minutes to see how light it got. Longest time recommened on the box was 1.5 hours, and i kept it in that long, so don't worry about it damaging your hair if you leave it in too long.

Do a test strand. Look for it to look like spaghetti noodle. yellow not white. Make sure its the kind of bleach you can use on the scalp. Otherwise you'll need to pull it through a cap. Depending on how dark your hair is on how long to leave on. If it's orange leave on a little longer. You have to go through the red (orange) stage to get to blond.

Please be careful! Do a test strip first, to be sure you don't get orange hair. Also, if you leave it on too long you will get dry, brittle hair. Follow the directions on the package.

Do a test on a hidden part of your hair.
