I'm making a cake for my mom's birthday and there will be about 15 of us there and I need to know what size cake I need to make.

Thanks to everyone who's answered so far. I want it to be homemade because growing up she always made us all these extravagent cakes ridiculous shapes and sizes! So I thought it'd be a nice gesture since it's my last year at home to make her her favorite homemade cake (yellow cake with a layer of strawberries and whip cream!) So thank you very much!

When I make a cake using two 9" round cake pans with frosting between the two layers and on top and sides, this generally is enough to feed 12-16 people depending on how big you cut the pieces. Our pieces are cut thin and we top it with vanilla ice cream so it goes a long way.

If you think everyone will want a piece or if there may be more people (or people want bigger pieces) you may need to cook a larger cake, such as using two 9" X 13" pans and stack these two instead.

It is nice that you want to make your mom's cake, but for that amount of people, you may find it easier to go to Sams/Costco or the local IGA and get one that is already made the right size and decorated. You can always cook the dinner instead, as that will be a chore in itself for all those people.

And I hope you have a dishwasher or disposable dishes :-)

Cook a rectangular cake. You won't get as much bang for your buck with a circular cake.

A regular 9x13 sheet cake should work. I make cakes for my office all the time and if you cut it with three lines the long way and 5 lines the short way you get 15 decent sized pieces. If they're big eaters make either make two sheet cakes or make a REALLY rich cake (like a flourless chocolate cake or a carrot cake). They'll accept smaller pieces and eat less if it's rich.

Hi. I'm 16 I bake Treats and things for my Family Members and Friends sometimes neighbors. You have 3 choices to choose from you can make a 1)Bundt Cake 2)Traditional Round Cake or 3)A Rectangular Cake.

If your going to choose a Round Cake I suggest that you bake two of those. or you can choose to make one round cake and one bundt cake. It's up to you.

Have Fun!

I work in the bakery as a cake decorator. A 9inch x13inch cake will serve 24 people.

I would get a sheet cake and you should be ok...Large sheet cake like from Costco or Sams. They are really good I have gotten them from both places. BJ's cakes are ok too!

Half a sheet cake should do it.

I'd say a 13X9 would work. The pieces wouldn't be huge, but they'd be large enough. :)
