growl back at him & firmly tell him NO! Put him in the submissive place that he is supposed to be in. he is growling at you because he doesn't consider you dominant to him.
taking him to obedience classes will help you get a leg up on being the Alpha in your house.
Good luck!

Do you bathe him in warm water? My dog gives me a hard time if I don't put warm water. If that's not the problem then maybe you should start by wetting your hand a little and petting and carefully adding a bit more water until your dog is wet. Do you pick him up? Many dogs hate when someone picks them up.Or maybe he doesn't like the doggy "bathtub" . If that's the case then make a doggy "shower".Small dogs are hard to convince but if you bribe him or calm him the right way it's easy. If your dog growls at you its either because your dog has a problem that you aren't aware of , he has some problem with people or many other reasons. If after being house trained he continues to growl you should go to the vet.

If you're afraid he'll bite, you may have to get a muzzle. Otherwise, I have to say that I have 3 grumpy dogs at times. They would not dare growl at me. I think I would agree with Cesar here and say that your pooch does not recognize you as Alpha Dog. You're going to have to jerk a knot up under him when he does it for him to get that you're the boss. Also, contrary to popular belief that dogs only growl when they feel threatened, it is not the case all the time. He may be afraid of the water but I feel pretty good that you're not drowning him or pouring the water down his nose. I suspect he is in charge at your house and he doesn't like the bath so he is threatening you. Get ahold of that dog sistah!
Good luck!

Try making the experience a positive one with favorite toys and treats for good behavior. If this doesn't work you may need to purchase a soft muzzle.

My old Lhasa Apso used to do that too. Just let him know that you're not intimidated by it. If you hesitate, he'll know he scares you and will use it to get his way. My dachshund tried that on me and I just picked her up and put her in the tub without even acknowledging the behavior and she hasn't tried it again. Wish I would have known that with the Lhasa.
