The fossils are real and so is evolution, so get used to it.

both are unsound. your question is also in the form of a false dillema as there are other alternatives.
but, the 'satan planted the evidence' suggestion is slightly less unsound. here's why:
There is physical proof of fossils of earlier life forms. There is no analagous physical proof of the non-existence of satan. that is, I can't simply hold up an object and say 'aha': this proves there is no satan. satan is extremely empircally unlikely and a ridiculous violation of occams razor but not physically disproven.
since the 'satan planted it' hypothesis does not contradict a physical fact whereas the 'non-existence of fossils' hypothesis does, it is the former which is more sound. Although again, it is far more instructive to note that they are indeed both unsound, and the question is illegitmately phrased because it assumes a false dillema.

Ha ha, my grandma used to say that fossils were invented by Satan. Can you believe that? As far as theological soundness, well, to acknowledge that would mean I would have to give any credence at all to Christian theology of any kind, which I don't.

Fossil are real, their age is indeterminable because we were not there when it happened. American Creationists are scientists that don't go by evolutionary assumptions that are unfounded by repeatable science. Creationists use the Bible and verifiable scientific methods to theorize what occurred in the past.
