Well, silly, not salad in a veggie salad but salad as in a spread. Kind of how mayo or miracle whip is sometimes called Salad spread or a salad dressing. Ponder something else and just let this one go.

One definition from Princeton that I found states that a salad is "...food mixtures either arranged on a plate or tossed and served with a moist dressing..."
You mix egg, onion, herbs, with a moist dressing (mayonaise) and you have a salad. Not the traditional green salad, but a salad nonetheless.

or even how is banannas, strawberries, and blackberries when mixed together considered a salad?
all a salad is is a mixture of different things.

salad just means mixed items...thats all its refering too..mixing items into the chicken and mayo you can add
Black Olives
Onions
Sweet Pickles
Celery
egg
and so on..
It basically means..Items thrown together
