The answer lies within you. Everyone will try to promote his own religion, and atheists will tell you not to choose one.
Well, if you feel empty without a religion, if you wish for a commitment in life to a complex codex of values than you need a religion. If it's just a flash, think again.
Which religion you choose is up to you. Nobody can force you to enter any religion and nobody can force you not to join one. It's up to you. I suggest you review your values and expectations from a religion, is it internal peace or is it worldly comfort or is it harmonious life or anything else that you're searching for. Then I recommend you to learn about World's major religions form their own sources (learn Christianity from good Christians, learn Islam form good Muslims, learn Buddhism from good Buddhists, learn Judaism from good Jews etc.)
You have to mind that pure Hinduism doesn't accept new converts because a Hindu must be born into a caste. Other religions are generally open to converts.
Don't forget to ask from some guidance from above.
I wish you all the best!

You don't need a religion - you need a relationship.
Religion is a dead and rotten thing without any real life in it. A personal relationship with God surpasses religion so much that there is no comparison to it. A personal relationship with God can only come through being cleansed of your sin through the sacrifice Christ made for you. There is no other way to have the needs of your soul satisfied.
Before anyone screams out bigot - let me assure you that I have lived without God and lived for wine, women, drugs and song for many years. All those things didn't fill the longing of my soul. I also went to Protestant and Catholic churches and even played around with Witchcraft a little seeking truth or at least something to get me satisfied with life. When all these failed I decided there was nothing to live for an attempted to kill myself, but I am thankful that I failed to do it.
After a trip to Broward County prison in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida I finally had time to slow down and think clearly without
all the props I had depended on in life. I realized that I had no real rhyme or reason or direction in life and was wasting my time on earth.
Finally I prayed to God - the last resort for most people. Should have been my first resort. I am happy to report that He
loved me enough to cleanse all my sin and totally revolutionalize my life, and I am living at peace with myself, my special wife and 7 children and more important than any other person with God, my Heavenly Father.
I prayed for forgiveness, and Jesus Christ became real to me
on February 19, 1974 and has answered many prayers for me and my family and friends over 33+ years since.
He alone can do the same for you. Don't listen to the nay sayers in here - seek Him out, and He will reveal Himself to you. He is the only resurrected being who can give us power over death and teach us how to live on earth and in Heaven.

Read the Bible, the Koran and others. Talk to the religious leaders of many different religion. Research on line and then seek out the nearest place of worship for the one that most closely conforms to your beliefs. If you are willing to put forth to effort then you are serious. If time is a factor try a local church, mosque, or synagogue. You must know some of the basics for the larger religious groups from just everyday life.

Anyone can tell you to go where they are.
I can tell you ever since I was a little girl my mother would take me to church.
Yet we did not stay there, we explored the Jehova's Witnesses, Baptists, Mormons, Pentecostals, and even the Muslim religion, as well as Pagan religions/ New Age stuff.
I found the church I am in to be the most satisfying, christianity. It is not easy but it it the most fulfilling spiritually mentally and physically.
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Matthew 6:33-34

Excellent question, it is sure to draw out many interesting answers.
I will suggest you follow the religion that helps your spiritual journey know your God.
The first step in finding that religion would be to ask God him self through prayer. He is the best one to guild you to himself.

Someone cannot flat tell you what religion to choose. Do you believe in God? Do you not? Do you believe in Heaven? Hell? If you believe all these things then you are a christian. So that is good for you!

The best thing that you can do is to research as many religions as possible and pick one that makes sense to you. Here's a little quiz that you can take.

No you don't. Religion is an attempt by man to trap God within their boundaries.
If you must, though, I'd suggest Baha'i, which is generally the most open and doesn't have much of a restrictive structure, or Avaidya Hinduism, which has a lot of good ideas, or Buddhism.
