Yes there was. Depending on ones belief tho.
Anyway, Yes there was. If one reads Genesis, ch.1 v 28. God says to man. Be fruitful and mutiply, and replenish the earth.
Now by mans standards, replenish means to "Make full. or complete again." To refill what was emptied,
That, what once was full. To Refill.
So it will be as it was. Again, means: To return back to the orgin, of the beginning, . To redo, a mistake, from a time before.
Now i am not saying God made a mistake.
I am saying man may have overdone themself, So God destroyed, what once was. and re-did it.
Now if you go to chapter 2 you will find, this is a different time table. From Adam & Eve. So there are 2 different, things.

Since some of you feel the need to be sarcastic, about the whole thing, then it would be a waste of time to explain it to you.
As for what bible i'm reading is not al that important.
But to answer you, its over 132yrs old. And its a KJV. And not a newer version. Just to set it straight. As for some of the other replys,
i got, they sounded reasonable, and logical. But still there was a mis-conception as to what my reasoning was. Or a mis-understanding. As to what my question was refferring to. I was answering a question that i read sometime back.

(MLC). Of cousre i know that. But did you know man lived among the dinosaurs as well? (Critter) i see you base your knowledge on what science says.Science is limited to man, knowledge. Not whats beyond man knowledge. (Hot-rica) I c u have a misunderstanding of it.(gerva)Sometimes one, must go back to the begining.
(Cemya2) I find your answer to be interesting. It is possiable. I'll think on it.
(MZ) i already asnswered you as well.
(Rezany) Thnks for the reply. (the neut)Yes so it seems, but i think you also have it all wrong. In G-1 & G-2. i think 2 different, things was going on, at the same time.
(Ansearch) Interesting concept. Don't have enough space, to explain it to you. email me.
(Beano) I can understand your point, but it don't make sense,to me. (kitz) What mks u think i'm wrong?

Genesis 1:1 " In the begining God created the heavens and the earth" We do not exactly know how long ago that was science debates this issue at length but it must have been
millions of years ago possibly. But Genesis 1:1 states he created the heavens and the earth. Earth means "dry ground"
so God created the earth and when the earth was created dry which is the reason God called this planet Earth.
Now in Genesis 1:2" And the Earth was without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters."This is the gap theory that many scholars believe that there is between these 2 verses. In verse 2 it states that the earth was covered with water how can that be when in verse 1 it states God made the heavens and the earth(dry ground) We do not know the spand of years between these two verses but we do know that according to verse 1 God made the earth and then in verse 2 it is completely under water.Something happened on the earth between verse 1 and verse 2 that caused God to create the earth and then plunge it under water. Which is why God gave the command in v.28 to Adam to "replenish" the earth.

I also heard that theory too, In fact it was yesterday on TBN, but, I dont know if I should beilieve it or not. Some say that is when the dinos were here, than God detroyed them, and made Adam and Eve . I dont know. theres a lot out on the table that can confuse people. I always believe that Adam and Eve lived with the dinos, cuz God created the animals, and I just classified dinos being with the animals. And the animals turned bad when Adam and Eve ate the apple! and eventually, God destoryed the world with the flood, and the dinos did not survive. They were "giants", like the "giants" that tainted the blood lines of humans! so, I like to think that there was nothing before Adam.

I will suggest you to use your power of reason, and ask God to give you understanding.
The first man came alive fully grown, perfectly formed, perfectly healthy, perfectly moral. The name that is repeatedly given him in the Bible record calls our attention to the substance from which he was formed. His name was ‘A·dham´. The earth, or soil, from which he was formed was called ‘a·dha·mah´. So his name might well be said to mean “Earthling Man.” This came to be the personal name of this first man—Adam. What a sensation it must have been to Adam when he came to life, became a conscious, intelligent person!
Genesis chapter 1 through chapter 2, verse 3, after telling about the creation of the material heavens and earth (Ge 1:1, 2), provides an outline of further creative activities on the earth. Chapter 2 of Genesis, from verse 5 onward, is a parallel account that takes up at a point in the third “day,” after dry land appeared but before land plants were created. It supplies details not furnished in the broad outline found in Genesis chapter 1.

There are 2 creation stories in Genesis.
One of them explains about God starting with the word, then creating light, the earth, etc. Next he starts creating living beings starting with the smallest and least advanced then working up to the most complex and finally man.
The story of Adam and Eve is the OTHER story. The version in the "Old Testament" is heavily edited and is missing important parts that can still be found in the Jewish books. It is a moral and metaphorical story about humans developing language and most importantly developing free will.

Hmm, as curious as I tend to be and I do lean towards the something before man idea. I am not comfortable using the word replenish to base my theory. Many meanings were "lost in translation' if you will. Not enough that the bible we read is inaccurate! However to take one word, without researching the use of that word, is dangerously misleading. I'm a little annoyed at the end of your statement; chapter 2 is a different timetable. Excuse me, how did you draw this erroneous conclusion?

I asked a question about this a while ago. I've believed this since I got saved and began studying the Bible (many years ago.) But someone who answered me said that if it were true, then death would have come before Adam & Eve sinned in the garden. I plan to study more on this. However, whichever is true, it doesn't have any effect on one's salvation, as some have been "concerned" about.
Also, I don't know what you base your opinion on concerning chapter 2--I disagree. :)

Wrong understanding of the word "replenish" as used by K.J. translators and in the vernacular of the time.Pre-adamic races is yet but another attempt by compromisers to find favor with evolutionists.

The problem is with the english translation of the biblical Hebrew. The Hebrew word means simply 'fill'. The concept of 'refill' is the translators bias.
Further, consider the verse in total....Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it.
Now, what makes more sense.....fill and subdue or refill and subdue?

Interesting theory, JC. Honestly, that makes more sense than other answers regarding the differences between Gen 1 and Gen 2. Now you have me wanting to study through it again. Look what you've done! Hehe!

That's an interesting observation...
I hate the idea that we might be getting it all wrong a second time.
Perhaps the word replenish could refer to filling the void left by the fallen angels.
...or...
some other life form.
