Like everyone said, you need a codec to decode the video file. The best and easiest for those who don't know much about the different codecs and versions and search for the right plug-in, just download the DivX player and it will play most of the different flavors of Divx out now.

you'll need an indeo codec to play almost all avi files

You probably need to download a codec.

Dowload a media player like media player classic or vlc player or divx player. all free.
