My cat has a black spot right on his gums inside his mouth. It looks like it is getting bigger. What is this, could it be serious? He is an orange tabby btw if that matters... :)

I have an orange ticked tabby Munchkin. A few years ago he started getting black spots on his nose, lips and gums. Then he got a few black whiskers. He's getting up there in age so I took him to the vet. The first thing the vet looked for was dental disease, but his teeth were okay. The vet said they're like the age spots humans get, so not to worry.
I've also had a Selkirk Rex that had severe periodonal disease. She was only 2 years old so the vet had to remove most of her teeth. We had noticed that she looked miserable and just sat there and drooled. She was in pain. Why would a cat that young have that sort of problem? We were told it might be hereditary.

My cat had that too. I had taken her to her annual vet check ups and they said nothing about it. Then more came. I wasn't sure if it was actually something or just the way her mouth was. Well I came to find out by taking her back to the vet that she had severe gum disease and they had to pull out 3 theeth. I felt so bad I didn't even know. I was mad at the vet for not catching it and letting me know.

My orange kitty also has a little black spot on his mouth... the size hasn't changed though and the vet said it's fine.

Its just coloring in the mouth. About half of my cat has gums that are like that. If you are unsure take him to the vet.
