To the poster that ignorant says "I don't know what atrocities Christians have done but don't think we're Catholics"...what EXACTLY have Catholics done that is an atrocity??

As to your question. Human do not owe obedience to the Earth, therefore we do not 'owe' it anything. We destroy it, care less about it, over-harvest crops, fish, we don't plant trees, and recycle. We owe it to ourselves to straighten up but nothing to the Earth. It is for our use, (and misuse). Sad to say but the truth.

We can only move forward if we forget who owes who what and move forward.
When we stop thinking about 9/11 as what Arabs did to Americans
Whan we stop thinking of the Haulocaust as what Germans did to Jews (and others)
When we stop thinking of the WWII relocation as what Americans did to the Japanese
etc etc etc

We will only be a society capable of moving forward when we remember these things and others as an example of what people did to other people.
We are the only creatures on earth who are this destructive to our own kind.
And until we realize that there is enough guilt to go around, and that we all must learn from each mistake, we will not be able to make any significant progress forward.
So much damage done unto the world has been in the name of settling the score.
Stop, already!

Modern Christians have only to understand the past and not repeat it. They did not commit these crimes and are not responsible for them. Modern Christians have no obligation to repay humanity. The Church should apologize and work to make ammends with the other cultures of the world. Modern white Americans do not own slaves and are not responsible for the crimes of the past. Modern Africans are not responsible for the fellows they sold to the Americans/Europeans (they ARE responsible for continuing to sell people though). No one can be held accountable for what ancestors have done. We can know the past, we can change the future but we cannot change the past. Many modern Christians are guilty of not knowing the history, denying the history, and failing to learn from history, but they are not guilty of the Crusades, the Inquisition, or the Burning Times.

In the Bible, the world empire of false religion is called Babylon the Great. And God will hold her accountable for the evil things she has done in his name.

Revelation 17:6,7 says, "And upon her forehead was written a name, a mystery: “Babylon the Great, the mother of the harlots and of the disgusting things of the earth.” And I saw that the woman was drunk with the blood of the holy ones and with the blood of the witnesses of Jesus."

Revelation 18:21 says "And a strong angel lifted up a stone like a great millstone and hurled it into the sea, saying: “Thus with a swift pitch will Babylon the great city be hurled down, and she will never be found again. "

Revelation 18:4 says "And I heard another voice out of heaven say: “Get out of her, my people, if YOU do not want to share with her in her sins, and if YOU do not want to receive part of her plagues."

Worse than what I notice that you didn't name anything. How about racism based on color or solely on conquering land. I think that was just as brutal. And Shark, it's ashame you havn't had a history lesson on the crusades. The crusades were started by the muslims decision to conquer the west just like today. Thank God for Dracula (Vlad Tepes) who stoped them from entering Romania through turkey.

You wouldn't need to go back generations. Look at the priest abuse scandal. Not to mention the Churches protection of Nazi's and oppression of gays and reproductive rights. Not to forget support of numerous brutal present dictatorships in Africa and S. America.

First of all, you have to capitalize every religion out of respect. Secondly, Christ came to Earth to save humanity because we needed a Savior. He didn't come to destroy or do wrong to it. Get your facts straight before you ask stupid questions.

and atheism hasnt? remember pol pots killing fields? the millions who disapeared in communist russia? the millions killed during Mao's "peoples revolution"? due to the burgeoning population in the last century, hundreds of millions were killed in the name of atheism, under the red banner of communism, perhaps more than all other "religions*" combined. Maybe killing people is a human propensity, regardless of religion?

* maybe not Islam, but its close

Don't go there. The concept of reparations for something a great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandparent might have done long ago is flawed from the start.

It would be even more difficult to apply it to a religious institution or deity.

Don't confuse us Protestants with the Catholic evils. They were the ones who burned everyone and started the illegal Crusader wars.

That's why we "protested" and became Protestants.
