-Functional electric automobiles were already developed and sold in America (they were taken off the market due to several reasons, but mostly from pressure of oil profiteers).
-Our coastlines should be lined with wind powered turbines. They do not have to be right on the beach. A quarter mile in would create enough wind powered energy to supply the whole United States. People complain about the "landscape" but developements in wind turbines have created a more eye-appealing, less bulky engine. Becides, there are plenty of obstructions already in place along our coastline (lighthouses, buildings, watertowers, etc...)
- If we put half of the amount of money President bush gave to oil companies as a tax break, into better developing renewable energy, I'd bet we wouldn't ever require the use of fossil fuels ever again.

Because it's cheaper to do what we're doing, if you only look at the short run and ignore costs like having to deal with the Middle East politics and global warming. And ignore the price future for oil in a world where demand increases more every year and supply increases less every year.
It's not a conspiracy. Just a lack of long range planning. And, in the US, a large part of the population would be very suspicious if the government did try to plan and take action appropriate for the long run.

None of what you said is true. Electric cars could not, and still cannot, compete with gasoline cars because batteries cost too much, don't last long enough and do not store enough energy. There is not enough wind on all our coastlines to power the whole country. It is debatable how much more progress could be made with alternative energy if research got more money, but probably not that much. For example, billions have been spend on fusion power over the last 30 years at least, with no payback yet.

as long as there is oil to be sold alternative energy will not get the blessing of the guys who are making money now
Rudolph Steiner invented a hydrogen engine that could run on water with a changed polarity by electrolysis.he was assassinated for his brilliance at a time when oil was taking off Big.
when the oil does run out ,don't worry then all the wind, sun.tide ,river energy methods will be marketed ,
and we will have bio cars ,electric and water cars .
when they have figured out how to charge for the wind and the sun and the tides and water currents
and water will be scarce by then
it is not a question of technology ,that already exists
its a matter of profits

Easy, The market as of right now is extremely profitable for the oil industries. People are buying the"trendy" amazingly uselessly huge SUVs that provides the need for more gasoline consumption! Also, it seems that with all the money being made, it's easier to neglect the negative repercussions arising from oil consumption.

that's achievable.. yet whilst so we will ought to behave immediately. and that i nevertheless have severe doubts that nuclear is a thank you to circulate :/ specially because of the fact it runs on some difficult to locate and costly factors, and it produces radioactive waste that must be stored. have 40+ radioactive rubbish piles isn't some thing that hobbies me.. the terrific thank you to do it would be to objective and go as organic as achievable. max the renewable organic energies like hydro, wind, image voltaic, and despite else we can locate.. then build the nuclear plant life the place mandatory. hell is achievable create a synthetic niagara falls... that water fall produces sufficient capability to skill the finished north east of north American lol. however the different puzzling area is the money.. the government is already extremely in debt, and the self sufficient companies have not got the money to construct new plant life.

Ok...how long have YOU been walking of riding your bike to work.school?
Do YOU own a battery operated vehicle?
Do YOU have a solar heated home?
Well until YOU start walking the walk nothing will ever change because that is where the economy is driven.
Until average Joes start asking for, and living by oil independance the corporations will continue to provide what we as consumers demand.

Why should we? What is wrong with using foreign oil? Why not save our oil for later and burn theirs?
I suppose the main reason 'we' aren't oil independant is because people like 'me' are part of the 'we' of whome you speak and don't see a real benefit.
