Why is it important to have a guy you're dating stand up to you? Not arbitrarily, but like when you test them, to see what you can get away with? In my mind, I see she wants to see how far she can go until I get upset with her.

What does she get out of it? What should I take from it, aside from getting frustrated?

When were kids, we test our parents that way because we need boundaries to feel safe and loved. I think that doesn't change when we grow up. I needed to know where my husband to be's boundaries were, too. I found it really scary emotionally that he wouldn't set them. So, set loving limits, and then stand by them. Maybe you both will feel a little better.

She wants you to show her that you are the man and that you care what she does b/c it would affect you also. Don't try and control everything she does, but don't let her walk all over you either. Even as children we feel the need for structure and boundaries and if they are not clearly drawn we will push them to the absolute limits and feel that we are not cared for as well as we should. I think that may have something to do with how we feel in intimate relationships as we grow older also.

I agree with you. I think girls do try to push the envelope. But just tell her what really upsets you. Like if she is testing you then tell her that you get really upset when she does that and please stop. Ask her why she has to find out your pet peeves in that way.

Put your foot down. She'll walk all over you if you let things like that pass. U don't have to flip out, but let her know you don't appreciate that.
