Papers mean nothing to the average person who wants a dog. They are only important to breeders and people who want to enter dog shows. There are many pure bred dogs without papers. I'm sure you are aware papers can be forged easily.

If the parents are imported their DNA will be on file with the AKC.
You can pay for the DNA tests... but why not just pay for the papers from the breeder? or if title work needs to be completed prior to their release (which is standard with some breeders) then make arrangements for papers afterwards.
A pup w/o papers does not have a lot of entitlements out there. Depending on breed you can still do SAR & Schutzhund... that type of thing.
If you buy a pup from a breeder then *trust* is a requirement. If you don't trust the breeder then by all means go and purchase your pup elsewhere.
Hope this helps

Just like the first poster said, papers mean nothing unless you are going to breed them. Even then, if the breeder has registered pups before and the b**** gets pregnant again, the breeder can say that the pups are pure, but you will never really know for sure. The vet is the best place to go to find out if the dog is pure or mixed breed.

You don't. AKC papers are pretty much worthless if you buy from a BYBer. The papers are falsified all the time and you will never know what you really got. Plus, they breed dogs that should not be breed. BYBers produce pet quality dogs and pups regardless of the lineage. Most should have been culled but even a very poor specimen will sell if there are papers involved.
People need to go to competent breeders to get their dogs and not BYBers. You know you got a good dog if it comes with Pedigree papers.

You probably won't be able to know 100% unless you go to a breeder with parents on premesis, or like someone had mentioned above, you can go to the vet.
Petfinder.com allows you to search for any of a specific breed at a huge list of shelters around the US. Adopting an animal from a shelter will most likely be considerably cheaper than going to a breeder, and the money you pay the shelter goes to being able to help other homeless pets. It's worth a shot to check it out. :)

HI
Did you see the parents on site? I sell pure breeds without papers sometimes. If you are not going to breed or show most people do not want them. Take it to the vet they can give you a good idea. Just because a dog has papers doesn;t mean it is pure breed. I bought a boston terrier with papers and when it got older the nose grew out long the vet suspected it was breed to a rat terrier, So sometimes the papers aren't worth anything.

certainly, basically as there are right and incorrect motives for buying a canines in any respect. whilst all you're finding for is an greater half animal, and have no purpose to coach or breed, then i might say that rescues and shelters in all probability ought to be first determination. Why spend the money for a canines that isn't going to be taken to its finished skill besides? there are a number of homeless canines finding for romance! on the different hand, once you're finding for terribly particular attributes, then shelters fall by utilising the wayside - you pick a rescue or an invaluable breeder for locating the *right* canines. once you're in effortless terms finding for particular attributes and not for teach, nicely, a rescue could be waiting to locate what you're finding for, much extra perfect than a breeder. or perhaps no longer. On yet yet another hand, in case you prefer to reproduce, nicely, an invaluable breeder is the only sport on the city. So - what's your objective? That'll help you artwork out the place to circulate finding.

You don't. DNA will not tell you whether a dog is purebred or not. It can only establish parentage IF you have the DNA of the parents as well as the dog in question.
That's why you should go to a reputable breeder. Not some BYB or puppymiller who doesn't provide papers.

DNA wont tell you what breed they are. If you dont have the papers and you dont know what breed they are you shouldnt have taken the dog... or else you could wait till they get older, then you would be able to tell what breed they are.

Reputable breeders would provide papers. If there are no papers, find a different source.
