If you are looking for a particular breed, then the website for the national club for that breed is your best bet (for example, if you wanted a basset hound you'd find the site for the Basset Hound Club of America). Pretty much all breed clubs have a breeder listing or referral service.
If you want a mixed breed, your best bet is to keep checking pet finder and your local shelter.

If you want a pure-bred, go to www.akc.org
They will give you information and help you find a reputable breeder.
If you're looking for adoptable dogs, then stick with www.petfinder.com or visit your local shelter. You can always do an internet search of adoption agencies/dog rescues in your area.
Good luck!

Go to your local humane society website. Some post pictures of animals that need to be adopted. Or else do down there and look at them, you might walk out with a new member of your family.

I wouldn't buy a puppy off the internet--try to find a local breeder or shelter!
