I don't own one, but I had one as a loaner for a few days.
Pros:
Inexpensive
Great Gas Mileage
Interesting Dash Setup
Great sound system
Cons:
You're getting what you pay for...
Feels kind of like you might tip over (Top-heavy)
Lot of body roll
Acceleration is a non-existent
All-in-all it's not a horrible car. If you are looking to buy something brand new and don't have a high budget, it really is not a bad choice. If you are looking for something that performs well and feels like a real car, buy something a few years old and spend the same amount of money on something a bit more substantial.

Yes, I have the sedan model. It will be a year in May.
What I like:
fuel economy
the look
its a Toyota
its actually quite roomy inside (the trunk is huge)
has a jack for my Ipod
got a really great deal from the dealer
perfect commuter car
What I did not like:
Acceleration- My previous car was a Ford Explorer and I had to get used to it. Now I am fine. I'm really not trying to win any races.
The cup holders are in a weird spot.
Some features are not standard so you may have to look for a while.
If you get one then make sure it the one you want! They do not all come with power locks/windows, tachometer, ABS or a radio. Do your research and if you can find one by all means test drive it. The car is quite popular and the sell like hotcakes!
Good Luck!

I own a 2001 Yaris/Echo and LOVE my car. In fact with over 70,000km with NO problems and over 46mpg, I am going to trade my Yaris for a new 2007 soon.
They are very well built.
See JD Powers and see that Nascar is full of lies:
Lexus, Toyota and Honda models dominate the segment rankings. Lexus models lead in four segments: GS
300/GS 430 (midsize premium car), LS 430 (large premium car), SC 430 (premium sporty car) and GX 470
(midsize premium MAV).
Four Toyota models also lead in their respective segments: Echo/YARIS (sub-compact car),
RAV4 (compact MAV), Highlander (midsize MAV) and Tundra (large pickup).

Read all of this before you consider a Toyota http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AjBWXBH9.rW4w8Xffa0c8UgAAAAA?qid=20070301210328AAn8E5d
Here is Smart Moneys test of small cars http://www.smartmoney.com/autos/newcars/index.cfm?story=december2006 The Yaris lost with 2 stars, Nissan Versa third with 2.5 stars, Chevy Aveo sedan second with 3 stars, and the Honda Fit won with 3.5 stars. They dont post the scores online, you have to get the magazine. The interior of the new Aveo sedan is actually pretty nice http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070218/COL14/702180672/1015/BUSINESS01 The Aveo is a worldwide player for GM, and in many places is a mid-range car. The Fit is a little nicer, but it costs a lot more and is more expensive to fix. My dad has a 15 year old Saturn and it still runs great, even within the last year GM has made strides in quality and reliability, and its paying off.
