Keep him & post a "found" listing in the paper along with some fliers possibly. Give the owner a chance to find him. Or bring him to the pound & ask them to call you in case the owner doesn't show up say with in a week or two. The pound would be able to tell if he has a tracking device also.

Its your choice to keep him or not, but legally and morally you should do all you can to find his real home first. Suggestions
you dont have to take him to the pound, or the shelter, but you have to announce or make it known legally you have found this dog.
Some papers will let you place a free, FOUND add in the classifieds. Do this, also call the local shelter, give them your phone number, tell them you want to keep the dog but that you found him and if anyone comes looking that they can call you. Then take him to the vet, you will have to foot the visit, but get him scanned for a micro-chipp and be sure hes not carrying any disease. Dont expect the owner to pay you back for this, since the dog is not techniqually your for 7 days after you found it. Legally it take 7 to 10 days for that dog to be yours. Also leave a notice at the vets office or all vets offices in the area that you have the dog. That is sufficent enough effort to find the dogs real home. After no one claims him hes yours with all the doggy responsibility and love. If you dont want to keep him and want him to not be a stray, then take him to the pound or shelter right away, dont let him be a stray for too long.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
Frontline is ok, just remember you are going to spend money on this stray dont expect the owner to reimburse you. They dont have too. Also if hes covered in ticks I suggest a dip rather than a spray. Weeding out fakes is hard, but find something unusual about the dogs appearance or coat, some white marks, scars, quirky behaviour, weird tooth, a collar, or a kinky tail something diffrent about the dog ask potential callers if they know of anything that can distiniqush the dog, and if they come to look at him watch his interactions with them, if he is shy and doesnt really care about them they are probably fakes, if hes happy and interactive they are likely his parents, even if hes scruffy looking and tick ridden it doesnt mean they dont love him, some peoples idea of dog ownership is drasticly diffrent than others. It doesnt mean they DONT take care of the dog.

Personally, I would clean him up, get his parasites taken care of by a good vet. Have the vet scan the dog for a microchip. There may be a family looking for him somewhere. If you want to keep him, by all means do so, but get him checked over real well. Min-pins are very expensive, so it is hard to believe that someone just threw him out. Something must've happened that he is on the loose. It sounds like he's had a rough time of it for awhile, so he deserves some pampering. If you don't want to keep him, you could check into Rescue groups. See if there is a Min-Pin rescue group that would be willing to take him. Rescue groups will drive across the country to pick up dogs and put them in their facility until they can find them a good home. I commend you on rescuing him yourself-that is the first and most important step to his well-being. Good luck!!

I would put up signs around the neighborhood and an ad in your local paper informing that you've found him, in case he ran away from home or is lost and his owner is looking for him, before doing anything else. If that gets no response, keep him, if you can. He will be treated right at the Humane Society and set up for adoption, but if no one adopts him, he will be euthanized. If no one responds to your ads, you like the little guy, and have the time and the facilities to keep him, by all means do. You'll very likely be saving his life. Good luck!

I have two min pin, and 6 puppies (at the moment) You should definately make every effort to find his prior home, However due to the state you found him in, he may no longer have a home. If you decide to keep him you have to understand that not only are the high energy, they a mischieves, and very intellegent. They are considered Hodini's. I have had my two for about 3 years now and love them dearly, but there are days that they are terrors, I think this has to due with thier level of curiosity. If you can handle it and no one claim him KEEP HIM they are a fantastic breed. P.S do some reading on care they have very sensitve skin GOOD LUCK

You should call local vets and/or animal shelters and see if anyone has reported their dog lost. Put a notice in the local newspaper. If, in a week or so, no-one has responded, do what you feel is right. If you have the time and money to care for what will become a new family member, go for it. If you can't afford it, or make time for it, give it to the shelter.

i have a min pin female now 3 yrs old. people tend to take on a min pin withouth knowing what they are getting into and the dog gets dumped. i pray that is not so in this case. if you cannot locate the owner only keep him if you feel you can take on this dog. it's a big dog in a small package. you can also look online for the miniature pinscher rescue. they take the abandoned dogs and are fostered. i personally think that's better than being in a cage all day anywhere else.

I would keep him and I would take him to the local vet and maybe he has a microchip in...if he doesn't put up fliers and phone the humane society tell them you want to keep him but obviously if the owner is looking for him you will return him.

well i think you should post some signs saying that if you lost a dog and put the type to contact you but if no one responds in a week or so take him to the vet and get him checked out and if you really want to keep him then do it but if you dont want to keep him then take him to the humane society so that they can get him a loving home.
