It is bad to shop there? Someone needs to shop there, or else how will they make money, right?

You'd be surprised what you find at thrift stores. Sometimes we're looking for hardware and will purchase furniture with interesting pulls that is cheaper than buying them new. Sometimes we're looking for replacement legs to update or change another piece of furniture and can pick up a table dirt cheap and remove the legs at a substantial savings over purchasing them new. Once we found a collection of about 30 wooden picture frames that we painted and used on a wall as molding. I don't think it is bad to shop there rather I think it is thrifty to shop there!

Thrift stores are one of the best kept secrets of our society. You can find designer clothes for pennies on the dollar, books for almost nothing, and so much more. One caution; be careful with electronics. Always demand to see them work before buying them. Most thrift stores have a no return policy. Just know what you are looking for and choose carefully. Check the zippers, buttons etc in clothing. Check furniture for missing knobs, stuck drawers, scratches and dings. If you find an item you really want and there are some obvious faults with it, the thrift store will often reduce the price, or bargain with you. And don't concern yourself with your "image". The richest people in town shop at thrift stores

Thrift stores are awesome. I can afford the clothes, and if I see an attractive woman in there I know that she isn't high maintenance. Never try to pick up a woman who shops on Fifth and Sax :)

But seriously. Thrift stores have lots of good stuff. Especially if you are into vintage odds and ends.

Oh yes, some thrift stores are great. You can get great deals. I have found that you cant really go with a certain something in mind that you want or need. Just go and look around. Sometimes you can find brand new things with tags still on from retail stores. Happy hunting!

Sometimes you have to dig but there is always good stuff.
I have gone both because i was broke and didn't have another choice, and because i had money but wanted something different than what retail stores had.
Once i saw a local anchorman looking through the suits at a Salvation Army. It really is good for work clothes. My last restaurant job required khaki pants and a polo shirt, and i bought all of them at thrift stores.

I love them. I can find designer jeans for $3-4. Lots of great collectibles, sometimes good furniture. Why pay big $ for something you might find at a thrift shop?

Most of them raise money for a good cause. I shop them before I go looking for retail merchandise. I got a coffee grinder, cappucino maker, blender, a stereo, a bed frame, I've furnished my whole house with great things that look and feel new for pennies on the dollar. I shop often. Sometimes they don't have anything. But unlike mall shops, I can afford just about anything I want. I'm a retired teacher. Works for me.

I've only been to a couple ... and they just had junk. But, I have found some awesome deals at resale shops. Beautiful designer clothes... some with the tags still attached. I walked out with an $800 blouse for $40.

I've had great success at thrift stores. Many times items are donated that have NEVER been worn. You just have to check the stores out frequently to see what's there. Remember: Who donates to these types of stores? Rich people who tire of things quickly!
