this old pistol belonged to my Grandmother who died 20 years ago and it is in excellent shape and in the original box. I'm sure it has never been registered and i'm wondering if I can sell it and how I would go about it. I did go to a local gunshop and they offered me $100 when I know it is worth more than that from what i've looked up on the internet. I live in SC

Here's a link to one with an asking price of $150.

The H&R revolvers with fixed sights I've seen in the condition of the one listed on Guns America have sold for $75 - $100.
The adjustable sight models will bring more, $150 to around $300 in 95+% condition.
The $100 price the shop offered you seems fair to allow them a profit margin. If they put $125 - $150 on it at the shop, I'd bet it would be there quite a while or they'd have to drop the price considerably to sell it.

First off I would not recommend you sell it to a gun shop.
They are in it to make money by buying it as cheap as they can get it.
I sell all my weapons on a web auction called Gun Broker.com.
I sold a pistol that the book value was $850.00 and on auction it went for $1295.00.
Who ever buys it pays for all shipping and FFL dealer fees at both ends (yours and his).
You get paid before you ship full price plus shipping and handling fees that you add on to get the total price.
It’s easy and it pays a lot more then selling it to a local gun dealer.
Link attached.
Go there and look up the same model and style, I would bet they have some and see what thay are selling for.

Note when you list it let them know you have the original box also that will be included in the sell.
Price is governed by condition, and the better condition the higher the price.
Take a good picture so the bidders can see the true condition of it and the box.

Hope this was of some help.

Patti,

Look on the box or any literature that may be in the box, or on the firearm itself...can you at least give us a model number and the serial number, using X's for the last two digits?

It's likely that we'll be able to provide much more information on your firearm given that info.
