If you really feel this is what God wants you to do, then do it. The Holy Spirit will guide you and supply you with the words you need. Also take action within your church. Let people get busy and do some of the work themselves. Donating time and energy is just as important as money. Pray some more and allow God's will to be done.
May God Bless you.

Two stories come to my mind. One is fictional, "Lillies of the Field". It was a short novel, I forget the author, but it was also a good movie with Sidney Poitier. If you need inspiration, try reading or viewing that. It shows how a community without money solved such a problem, through everybody giving what they could. And notice, they didn't stop worshipping during the time they were without a church building; they had outdoor services at an old trailer. The other story I remember is the story of Saint Francis of Assisi. He had a dream or vision in which he heard God say, "Go repair my church which is falling down." He thought God wanted him to repair an old tumbledown church building in his neighborhood. He stole cloth from his father's cloth business to get the money. He was taken to court and made to return the money. After this, Francis had a great change of mind and heart. He gave up everything he had, even took off all his wealthy fine clothes, and walked off into a life of poverty. Eventually he realized that he had misunderstood God's message to him. God hadn't wanted Francis to repair a building; he had wanted him to repair a damaged institution, and damaged souls. Yes, Francis did also repair an old church building at Portiuncula, but he did it in poverty and without worrying about money, the same way the church in "Lillies of the Field" was done. Consider both of these stories as you ponder carefully what God wants you to do here.

Write to him, but be willing to do other things that can not only bring in money but bring the congregation closer. Most large scale business owners get literally thousands of requests to give money, merchandise and support for "causes". While many of them are worthwhile, they simply cannot afford to do them all.
Years ago, we needed money for our building improvements and being a small congregation, we decided to hold an old fashioned street bazaar.
Everyone DONATED the food and things they made to sell and all of the money went to the church building fund. We made $800.00 in one day.
while that doesn't sound like a lot, if you need repairs and painting, you can ask for volunteer labor and use the money to buy the supplies.
Ask for donations from local building companies. See if you have a budding artist in your congregation who would be willing to paint a mural for one wall.
Be willing to do more than one event as needed.
By the way, our local high school band buys sandwiches from chick-fil-a at a guaranteed number for a reduced price and then we sell them at football, basketball, baseball and softball games for more money. It brings in a pretty good chunk of change and we always sell out.
Good luck!

When Truett Cathy was cooking chicken at home long before the food chain started.......were they not a simple person?
Being a biz owner myself, I enjoy helping small places, other biz's, etc. Some big corporation comes in, nah, they just want money. But small, its "hometown", "personal".
Just write them a simple, clear letter. If it was meant to be, HE will do the work once its mailed.

Personally I don't believe that God wants you to find a sponsor an have a fundraiser for your church. The Bible says that God will provide all your needs according to his riches in Glory. If God does not provide it it is not a need. DL Moody used to say " God's work done in God's way will not lack God's support." I think the church needs to look at itself and see what it is doing wrong that God is not providing for it. If you really need funds, start praying to God, and allow God to direct your church and the way it should go so that he will be able to provide the funds in his own way.

Get a clue, examine reality and shut the place down. Build a business that really serves your community. The world needs less mysticism more real values, less phony ones. People are getting wise to you. And when Truett dies Chik-Fil-A will be open on Sunday. Mark my words. I may buy it just to make that happen???

Organize a church garage sale. Call around for donations. See if you can get it advertised in the paper for free, also advertise on Craig's list.
As far as the church falling apart, is there anyone in the congregation who is a handyman or a contractor?

If you cannot raise the funds from within the church, you're church hasn't been growing enough and I would consider it a dead church. Move the church into someone's home and get back to what it's all about, believers meeting together and praying to God.

You say you are simple? God used Moses and he had a speech impediment. If God wants you to do this, he will help you and give you the strength and courage to do it. :) I'm really shy and we are doing a silent auction at our church and I had to ask buisnesses for donations. But we got around $400 in donations for it. :) I'll pray for you!
