My favourite recipe is Spag Bol but I also love making my own burgers. Chop an onion, garlic, mustard seeds, salt, pepper, chilli powder, worcestershire sauce and add to the beef. Add an egg to bind the mixture and shape into burgers. You can also make Lamb burgers the same way but add mint and rosemary instead. Taste great grilled or cooked on the barbie

A really different way to eat mince is:
Make your savory mince anyway you like, then take peach size handfuls of bread dough, flatten the bread dough and drop into hot oil, fry for a couple of mins until crisp and light Golden brown, drain, slit the vetkoeks open (like you would pitta bread) fill with savory mince and voila Savory Mince Vetkoeks, these are traditional south African fodder and very moreish, even kids love em!

I'm making it right now! Good quality minced lean steak, a couple of shallotts (coarsely chopped), Parisian brown mushrooms, some spring onion, cook in peanut oil with a little soy sauce, egg noodles on the side. Sorted.

I make thse great vietnamese patties from Madhur Jaffries book.
You mix a little chilli powder, some coconut milk, ground peanuts and finely chopped shallot into the beef.
Then you roll them into tiny little burgers and cook on a griddle or dry frying pan.
Then you wrap each one in a lettuce leave with chopped mint and coriander, some more ground peanuts, and a salad of cucumer and beansprouts.
To eat you dip each parcel into a sauce of rice wine, fish sauce, sugar and chilli.
Quite fiddly to make and eat but oh so good. My husband is addicted!

Got to be traditional shepherds pie with really thick gravy in and lots of mashed potatoes on top, mashed with butter and browned off on the oven. A Friend of mine sometimes replaces the potatoe with mashed parsnips - never tried it myself though!
