I owned a Pitbull for 13 yrs. She was the biggest baby, sweet and loveable. They need more attention when they are growing up then do some breds so that you as the owner can be the alpha dog at all times. This takes alot of love patients and bonding. That being said I would not help him go get his dogs!!! His dogs should not have acted this way and if they do they shouldnt be allowed in public. It's owners like him that make it hard for all the sweet, loveable, Pitbulls. He odviously is not in control of his dogs. Also he needs to pay for your dogs vet bills!!! If he doesn't file charges and take him to court!!! I know I sound harse but your dog is small and and could have been killed and worse yet you could have been seriously injured. I feel very strongly about this matter. Good luck to you and your doggie I hope she recovers quickly.

I don't care if you are friends with this guy! Your dog's health and well-being should be the most important thing. I would absolutely call the police, press charges, make sure it goes to court, and ask for restitution. It is his responsibility to keep those dogs in his own yard, and on leashes. What were the circumstances of the attack? How did they come about being in the same area? Many cities across the U.S. forbid pit-bulls to live in the city. Does your city allow them? I would also call the ASPCA in your city, and they can also press charges. Do what you have to to get this guy to take responsibility. I would rather lose him as a friend than put my dog at risk. DO NOT HELP HIM GET THOSE DOGS BACK!! I wish you all the luck and my prayers are with your little dog. Be strong and go after this guy for your dog's sake.

No. Do not recommend to the judge that he get his dogs back. That is probably the only thing you could do for him anyhow. This case should go to court and the complaint should be seen through all the way. I would also ask the judge to see to it that he pays all the bills to get your dog back to full health.

I love pit bulls, don't get me wrong, but I would have the same answer if it were dalmatians or mutts or german shepherds or whatever. If the dogs attack smaller dogs and do the wild pack thing, this guy is not handling them responsibly enough and needs to take his lumps. I realize that this could cost you a friend but think of whom the dogs might attack next if he's not doing what he needs to do to keep the community safe.

If this were your child instead of your dog, you would do whatever was necessary to keep her safe, right?

The owner of the pits asked you to help him get his dogs back? Unbelievable. The only help he'd get from me would be help in getting them put down.Everybody gets so mad when anyone starts bashing pits but how many breeds other than that do you see on here doing this kind of stuff? No many at all, I have been keeping track for several weeks now and 85% of the time it is pits. They never would have made it to the pound if they had attacked my dog. You need to take whatever actions you have to to get your bills paid for. If he was your friend he would have no problem with paying the bill.

1. If you want the help with the vet bills (and they will add up) may be make a deal you help me, I'll help you type of thing.

More Imortantly

2. Do you trust that the Pit Bulls won't do this again, to you or someone else. How well do you know these dogs and their owner? Was this rare and out of character for the dogs? If you don't feel comfortable with these dogs close by don't help get them out.

My dog was attacked in a Dog Day Care situation and I got little help from the owner of the Day Care. The intial vist to her vet was covered but the follow up and additional treatment recemonded by my vet I had to pay for myself. I never took my dog back to that Day Care again, mostly because of the fear it might happen again and partly in responce to the owners lack of care for the welfare of my dog.

Did they attack your dog on your property? was your dog off of your property? Did the dog start the attack? Did you have your dog on a leash and under controll? Did the man warn you about his dogs behavior? Did the man have them both confined when it happened or were they loose during the attack?
Depends on how it happened. also depends how you answer those as if he is responsible for it. Most people that feel badly about there dogs doing that will help pay, and he should, the question is legally does he HAVE to. I hope your dog will be ok. Your choice to help him get his dogs back but depending on the circumstances I would not help him at this time.

My yorkie was just killed a month ago by a rottweiler. the dog cam in my yard and kill him right in front of me. When I called the police they said that I could file a civil lawsuit againist the owner. When I took my dog to the vet she told that something needed to be done with the dog because right they hunt other dogs but before to long they would hunt small children. I spent a liitle over $300.00 and my dog still died and he as a full registered yorkire shire terrier. I loved my dog and I really like that breed but if I was to get another one will cost around 1500.00. Good luck if you take him to court.

Well, he is legally responsible for the bites his dog did to yours. However, you may have to take him to small claims court to collect the debt. Since there is a record of the attack at the pound there should be no problem getting a judgement.

Sew good luck hon.. I really hope your pup-dog survives this and does not go into shock... which can happen with small breeds.. keep her close to you...

Tell him you'll help him (his dogs are probably part of his family too) as long as he agrees to take responsibility for his dogs and help with your dog's vet bill. Remind him that that is part of being a responsible pet owner.

I assume you have taken your dog to the Vet since you mention Vet bills. That's all you should be doing for her right now.

Once she is healed, or dies, then you can sue the dog owner in Small Claims Court for the cost of your Vet bills and/or cremation/burial bills if your pet dies.

I'm very sorry that your pet was injured.
