I would suggest going somewhere with a couple of friends or family members like up to a cabin and do your best to keep busy or if the cabin has a hot tub make a small drink and relax in the hot tub for awhile. The farther away from the possiblilites of getting your hands on more meds the better. You could also try accupuncture or hypnosis. If you live close to the Mexican border there are a few clinics that will put you in a medical coma for 3 days while the worst part passes. I know alot of people who have gone this route to get off all kinds of drugs. Another way would be to slowly cut down. If it isnt you who needs to get off the meds. and is someone else you can try finding a pill that looks just like the one they take and every other one that they take give them the fake one. If it is you I wish you good luck and that what ever reason you were taking the pain meds to begin with is now gone.

If by symptoms you mean, muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, headache etc you can treat all those symptoms with OTC products like ibuprofen, pepto bismal and Imodium. You should be alert to changes in temperature or blood pressure if your addiction was severe and see medical assistance if you think these areas a out of normal range. I hardly think taking a walk will ease withdrawal symptoms!

Find something that you can do and enjoy doing. Keep yourself occupied with this until the symptoms begin to decrease, you could even find several things to do. Sewing, Knitting, golf, bowling, movie theater, help out at schools, or hospital.

I've been on numerous pain med's- & the best way is to be tapered off of them, if your just taken right off them, Dr. is'nt handling it right- try to read draw, something to try to relax you., if he (dr.) won't, good luck-been there! But, I'd at least ask him too.
