I weight myself every morning when I wake up, and I noticed my weight keeps changing big time. Last summer I weighted 150lbs now I'm 170lbs & last week I weighed 178 lbs. Whats going on with me? I stay active and exercise reguaraly, I don't over eat, and I stay away from all junk food. I do yoga & meditate 3 times a week too. I had my thyroid tested last summer as well, but my Physian said it was normal. Is anyone else dealing with the same problem or do you have an idea as to what could be going on?

Can I ask how old you are? It's very common for metabolism to slow down as you get older, making is very easy to gain weight by maintaining a healthy lifestyle. It can start as early as 30 and go upward from there. Sometimes it starts as early as 20's.

I would evaluate how many calories you eat per day. Google "calorie calculator" and find out what is the suggested amount for you to eat per day. Watch your food labels. A lot of the foods you eat on the daily basis might be loaded with calories, and your body might not be able to process them as fast anymore.

Also, keep smaller meals throughout the day and snack every four hours. This will also help your metabolism stay up.

If you watch your calorie intake for a few weeks, and you seriously cut back and your weight still flucuates, then try increasing your cardio excercise.

If that still doesn't work, then I would see a different doctor and get a second opinion on your thyroid. See an endocinologist, they specialize in these things.

If it's not your thyroid, something else could be wrong, but it's probably nothing serious.

However, I'm willing to bet it's your metabolism slowing down. It happens to everyone.

Stress can be a big factor! Also, even if you are using the same scale you can get different results depending on the time of the month, what you have been eating, and if you are retaining water.

Also, your body changes with age and your metabolism tends to slow down. You may need to begin doing more physical exercise and cardio workouts. If you are not already taking a multivitamin start today. You may want to have your thyroid tested again to see if there have been any changes with that as well. I have always been a firm believer that normal is not normal for everyone.

Do u retain alot of fluid? Wieghing urself to is always best with no clothing on.. Not all scales will say the same.. Go to the one at the docs office.. More accurate than the ones u buy from walmart or where ever. Drinking lots of water will help u take the fluid off.. Helps u get rid of the extra fat u dont need too..
maybe u should go back to the doctor and have them test u for other things as well..
good luck and god bless u

Don't weigh yourself every day. It should be once a week because fluctuations occur. I can gain over 5 pounds the week before my period and then it melts away when my cycle is over! It helps to drink lots of water. Oh, and remember that the number on the scale is less important than how you feel. I started working out and lost a lot of fat, but was feeling discouraged that the number on the scale wasn't decreasing. However, my clothes fit looser, I have more energy, and I look much, much better. I think our society focuses on the number too much.

Your metabolism slows with age. The very same thing happened to me this year, went from 145 to 165 and wasn't too pleased. I found that a daily 20 minute workout and walking vigorously for 1 hr every other day has brought my weight down 12 lbs in 6 weeks, unfortunaltely it doesn't come off as fast as it goes on! I am 44 years old. Hope this helps.

There is no way you are not over eating. You don't gain 20 pounds on no calories. You can gain 10 pounds in less than a year by just eating an extra 100 calories- so sounds like you are consuming an extra 200 per day than your body needs.

Do not weigh your self everyday. Fluctuations occur.

There is allot of reasons why people gain and lose weight. From what I have heard is not water retention or anything like that. One problem that I see allot of with people not able to lose weight is stress. When we get stressed our body has always done the same thing. 200 years ago people stressed about not being able to feed themselves or there families, and from this stress our body produces a type of fat that protects us from starvation. And since we havn't evolved our body dosn't know the difference between a stressful work envornment and not having enough crops to feed the family. So I would first sit down and evaluate what stresses you out. That way you know what to focus on, and that type of fat is easy to lose, and with proper food consumtion and less stress, that fat will melt away. And a down side to that fat is that if it's left on the body it can actually cause liver and kidney damage. So don't stress so much, and you will see a huge difference.
