I'm in the market for a new road bike and this is going to be my first big investment in one. I'm on the verge of making a purchase and it's come down to 2 contenders.

- New 2006 Lemond Versailles - $1300

Shimono 105 components

- Used 2001 Co-Motion Expresso Dura Ace - $750

Shimono Dura Ace componetss, Good Condition,
was $2700 when new in 2001.

I'm interested in some feedback. I'm going to be using it to ride to and from work (24 miles daily) and some longer weekend rides.

Thanks

If you are sure that it is the right size and in good condition. I would go for the Co-motion. I would recommend servicing it though. Your bound to get many years of good riding out of it. You won't loose much if you resell.

Steel forks and a higher spoke count are in your favour. You previously stated an interest in carrying weight/touring. It is anybodies guess which components will last longer. If it hasn't had that much use I would say the Dura Ace.

You'll have an extra $550 in your pocket if you need to fix/upgrade anything.

Don't forget to play it up with the wife. You know the old "I couldn't spend that much on myself " line.

Good luck and happy cycling

Go with the Co-Motion. Purely for emotional reasons:
- they're a small builder that supports bike commuting etc.
- I just like their designs
- it's used, which is cooler than a modern LeMond.
- old Dura Ace is cooler than new 105.

Nothing against the Lemond, I like his bikes and design style too, but in this case I'd go with the Co-Motion.

Otherwise, pick the one that makes you smile more... that's what it's all about, right?

for 1300 bucks you should be able to find something better that 105... at least you can get all Ultegra on an aluminum frame
check out Trek, KHS, Specialized, and Giant
