52 and 46... barely a difference
42 and 36... a difference, but not that big a deal
32 and 26... a bigger difference, but managable
22 and 16... HUGE difference. That's a 25% age difference and there are so many things that a typical 16 year old needs to learn that a typical 22 year old already knows.

Fine for them to talk, but not likely a good basis for a relationship.

Hi!

NO NO NO NO NO. NO NO NO...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beware of any 22 year old man who is interested in a 16 year old!

Yes, age matters here. It's called "statutory rape" should a physical relationship be involved! Jail time for him, kiddo. He should KNOW better!

Tell your friend to really be careful. A friendship is one thing, anything else is pretty much an "uh-uh".

A 22 year-old man is still a MAN. A 16 year-old girl is still a
GIRL. He has no business with a young girl like her. I'd call him a predator if he's interested in any more than just a platonic friendship.

Please warn your friend to stay closer to her own age group, at least until she's 18 and more mentally mature. I don't mean this as a put-down, but 16 year-old girls are way too emotionally immature to handle a grown man's needs. And I'm thinking what this guy NEEDS is a karate chop on his, uh, ummmm...well, you get the picture I'm sure.

Good Luck here!

There comes a time when age doesn't matter. In this case it does matter. By law he can get into a lot of trouble just by talking to a 16 yr old. The age difference is not all that big, but the fact that she is under 18 is a huge deal. If they truly like, care or are in love with each other then they would be willing to wait until she is 18 to have any kind of serious relationship. If her parents are okay with them having a relationship despite the age difference, then it's okay I suppose. I had a friend who was 16 and married a 21 yr old with the consent of her parents. But the safe thing for them to do is wait until she is legal.

No. I wish I had waited when I was 16 as I was not mature enough to handle a relationship and got hurt because he (20) was only after the sex. I though I was in love, but what did I really know?

With your friends guy being 22 this may be his motive especially if she is a virgin. However, if he truly loves her, he will wait for her to graduate high school and turn 18.

When we are this young we do not really know what love is but we think we do because we are infatuated totally consumed with this person so what real experience do we have to base our feelings on? We don't. Experience is what will teach us.

Your friend Selina has a whole life time to fall in love so she should wait and zero in on her education. When the time is right, the right person will come along. Don't waste the best moments of your life and high school right now.

They can have their feelings if they want to...there's nothing wrong with feelings. It's ACTING on the feelings that can get them into trouble.

There is a HUGE difference between 16 and 22.

The guy that is 22 is most likely NOT in love with your friend. He IS probably in love with getting into the pants of a 16 year old girl.

My advice...they should stop seeing/talking to each other for 2 years (until she is technically legal) then, they can see where they are at that point. If there is real love there it will show at that time.

age does matter if ie a girl is 16 - which is not an adult and is dating a guy in his 30s/40s/50s but a 16 year old with a 22 year old isnt majorly bad, thats how ole my boyfriends were at that age, as long as he doesnt pressure her into sex i dont see there is a problem

No he is 22 and she is 16 still a minor...criminal charges.

He should not mess with a girl under 18.

If a 22 yr old guy was trying to take advantage of my 16 yr old daughter...I wouldn't waste a minute dealing with him and after I got through he would be history.

I would be a hypocrite if i told you its wrong...
since when i was 16 I was talking to someone older then me.
But i think she should be careful cause they think differently at the moment and that could lead of to things she might not want to deal with in the future, his expectations of a girlfriend are way different then what she has in mind.

As for the legal issue ... can't help you there make sure people around you like her mom and his mom are okay with it cause he could get into lots of trouble!

thats a tough one. I would say no if everyone is over 18. Since your friend is only 16 some people will look down at them but others will have no problem as long as the older want doesnt abuse or try anything with the younger one.

age does matter.
I'm 18 and in 12th grade and my boyfriend was 16 and in the 9th grade. he seemed nice and everything, but i found out that he kissed another girl and he lied to me about a lot of stuff. he was childish and not ready for a long term relationship. we were on different levels and he made me believe that he was on the same page of life as me. needless to say he is now my ex the girl he kissed was so say my friend and now I'm with someone who is 18, has a car, has a job, got his GED, and has goals in life. we really are on the same level and he has been my crush since 7th grade and a really good friend of mine for a long time. he's great. you should tell her that she should get a guy that's her age that way they will have more in common.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!
