To all those who say Christianity is a cult too -- I am a christian(catholic) -- and I have never been forced to sit in a hot house and sweat out my impurities, or sit in the dark and silence until I am sorry. That is not the way of Christ.

It's a religion with no consequences. First thing a cult will teach is that there is no hell, and no eternal consequences for your actions. When you live like a Hollywood star, why wouldn't that appeal to you?

Primoa - You make a good point, there will be more accountability on their part. But really, every religion or cult in the US has access to the Bible. They will ALL be accountable.

Primoa, do you even have a clue? What is the definition of deity?

de·i·ty /ˈdiɪti/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[dee-i-tee] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun, plural -ties. 1. a god or goddess.
2. divine character or nature, esp. that of the Supreme Being; divinity.
3. the estate or rank of a god: The king attained deity after his death.
4. a person or thing revered as a god or goddess: a society in which money is the only deity.

Jesus was a mighty god. The scriptures say that. But he is NOT the Almight god. His father is. He prayed to the almighty god while he was on the earth. He said that the Father is greater than he is.

Read your bible. PLEASE.

Technically speaking, Scientology is a new religious movement, it stopped being considered a cult when L. Ron Hubbard, whom founded it, died in 1986.

A cult is only a cult as long as it's founder is alive.

As far as being popular among stars I attribute this to them being so far removed from living in reality they do not know how to cope with real life.

Just like Kabbalah and Madonna. "If it's good enough for a celebrity then it's good enough for me". Plus with help from the media putting in every heading every day helps word get out. I don't hear John Travolta and his wife talk about it. But Tom Cruise sells it like a drug on a street corner.

A lot of people like being in a cult, and if Tom's not OT4, he won't know some of Scientology's weirder beliefs.

And yes, it is like a weird thriller. Leaked Scientology papers show that it is one of their major objectives to gain the support of popular celebrities before moving on to the general population at large. Creepy, eh?

we as Jehovah Witnesses are not a cult. a cult worships man and does what he wants. I am tired of people saying we are a cult. also we are not brainwashed. we worship Jehovah God and his son Jesus Christ. Jesus is the head of the kingdom halls in 236 lands. we live in our own homes and work on jobs. a cult does not work among you.

Ephesians 2:1, Paul tells the church ,"As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following it's desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions It is by grace you have been saved."

Because of Jesus death on the cross and God's grace, we have been saved. They follow the world because, they don't know Jesus.

It is the draw of the HA HA.

The HA HA is out there to get a grip on you.

If you had nothing in your background to give you at least an idea of God.

You are a prime target of the HA HA.
You are very easy to get a hold of.
He laughs a lot when he gets a grip on you.
