Don't over estimate walking...Walking is a trick to your body. Your moving too slow to burn the calories you ate today, but your body needs to use something so it uses mainly its fat reserves as oppose to calories (the opposite is true for running\... more calories are burned in running...not fat). I lost 40 lbs. by walking. Then when I was at a normal weight, I then bulked up. I walked on a daily basis, but for my cardio I played soccer. I found running unbearable. Then lift weights. Do small amount at first. This will "tone" your muscle. Then when you step up your weight your muscles will be able to handle it. As far as food goes...I think you can make smart choices.

Have fun...you will lool great!!!

PS do not look at a scale...You will feel better & look better. Your weight will be misleading.

Assuming that you are past puberty, the best way is lifting weights. Have a gym teacher or other coach help you determine your max lift; then work out with 80% of that to build muscle--lift it 10 times, then rest, then do ten more. Work out with 1/2 of that (40% of your max) to burn fat...do several sets of 10 or 20---but lift it A LOT MORE TIMES than you lift the larger weight.
Swimming laps is also a good exercise, do wights one day, laps the next, and neither on the third to prevent injury to your muscles.
To lose weight, you also want to cut back on foods with the words "corn syrup" in the ingredient list.

Sounds like you wanna tone. That means you want to form your body's fat to muscle. You need to go to a gym or Y (ywca or ymca) or something and find a professional who would be able to tell you what to do.

Protein is the answer. Add more into your diet to help build muscle. Protein shakes are great.
