For everyone of all ages, the answer to this question will be different. Some people get over it immediately and move on to the next conquest. I don't advise it as when you are on the rebound and you find someone else to be with, you will constantly be reminded of the things your lost love did and why you want to be with them and not the new person. This isn't fair to the new person nor yourself.

Everyone needs a time of mourning. I am going through the same thing myself and he just wants to be friends and is always around which doesn't leave me time to get on with my life. ....it has been 6 months. I am perfectly fine when I don't bump into him.

Get involved in things that the two of you didn't do together. I joined a gym, am involved in church activities and try to use my weekends doing things that won't remind me of him (he didn't like going to the movies or bowling and I do)

I don't think you ever really get over someone. I don't but I do go on and am glad for the experience with that person. Don't be afraid to socialize at all....you might miss out on meeting a wonderful person.

Sometimes years. But, don't let your feelings now stop you from "living" life to its fullest. You can go on living and find things that will help you to "get through" when something like this happens.
Start pushing yourself to do things that make you happy. Don't allow your feelings to stop you from enjoying life. Don't allow the pain and misery to dominate your life. Allow yourself to feel happiness and joy despite the sorrow. Soon you may be able to look at the situation more clearly and work on the part of you that may have helped cause the break-up in the first place.

I'm still not over it officially. My theory is that you can't get over somebody but the feelings are still there. It's just won't come when they are not there to remind you of what you've been through with them.
