It's possible, but there has to be some sort of limit. I dated this guy who was "best friends" with his ex-girlfriend. They talked every day, sometimes two or three times a day, text messaged each other constantly (to the point where he'd stop talking to me to text or talk to her), and more. One night the three of us hung out, playing Monopoly, and it was like I wasn't there. After that I cut it off because it just wasn't appropriate behavior.
So it's possible as long as the two of you can keep it strictly friendly and your friendship won't interfere with future relationships.

Yeah, it's possible.
Maybe not a good idea right off the back, since you probably still have feelings for this person. But later on, why not?
You liked them for a reason. Don't just disregard them when you hit a hard place in your relationship. It's nice to have friends that know a lot about you and how you feel. They could be someone to talk to just for when times are hard.
But be careful. Opposite sex friendships aren't the best of ideas. Especially if you are planning on getting a new girlfriend. She may not like the idea too much.

Very few people can, and it's not really ever a good idea. The person you get together with later on had better be very understanding or they will become very jealous.
If a man was still "best friends" or even still talking to his ex on a regular basis, I wouldn't date him long. But that is only because I, personally, would be uncomfortable with it. Some people don't mind, but it will limit your dating experience later in life.
Also, after being with someone for 3 years, can you really be only friends? Will you not be something more??

Yes you can sure its a little tuff because your just so use to holding there hands and kissing and other stuff. So for awhile its hard but sometimes the friendship becomes more casual and who knows maybe later on you may bet back together. you wont know until you try if things get worse try backing of a bit, its all about space.

I don't know about best friends. When you get a new gf, its may be hard for her to trust that you and your ex are nothing but friends now after a 3yr relationship.
