I saved some files on dvd/cd and when I try to edit them it shows as read-only. What do I need to do to change that.
Some are business files and some are graphics.
OS is Windows Xp

Sounds like you're using a write-once CD/DVD. Which means in order to edit them, you'll need to move them to your computer hard-drive. To do this just open the folder where the files are stores on your CD/DVD, and drag (or copy and paste) them to your documents folder on your computer.

If the CD is a CD-R or a DVD +R or DVD -R then you can't change the file because it's a one time write only :). What you can do however, is copy it onto your local hard drive and then try again. If it still says read only, then right click on the file and click on properties. In the first tab, you might find the "Read Only" button checked. Uncheck it, click on Apply, OK, and you should be good to go.

Data burned on CD's or DVD's are always going to be read only. There is no way to edit them because the information is burned onto the disk.
