He is a yellow lab/husky/retriever mix. He has tried to be taken on walks but it doesn't work, he walks us. He is constantly outside running the fields and comes in to do nothing but attack us and eat holes in the couches, choes, and anything in our laundry hampers.

TRUST ME MY ANIMALS ARE MY BABIES SINCE I CAN'T HAVE REAL ONES OF MY OWN I WOULDN'T HURT THEM I SWEAR!!!

I have a 6 year old Doberman Pincher and he is just as busy and hyper as he was at one year. He carries my cat around bythe head in his mouth and when the cats had enough he tells the dog but keep your dogs mind busy go to your local pet store and get some toys you put treats in or food and give him that to keep him busy when your not home and when you are home play fetch and as far as him walking you thats just means you should invest in a leash that attaches to you dogs face and when he walks to far ahead of you his head will turn and he wont walk with out seeing in front of him so he will wait for you to catch up and hopefully you have a harness on him and not a collar to take strain off his neck. Why would you subject your dog to a shocker collar, do you love your pets? Would you shock your mother ? Anyways you need to challenge your dog not ignore him he cant talk but hes smart. Maybe chewing the furniture is payback for the shock therapy you thought would work. Since you have a mixed bread you need to read up on all the breads this may give some insite to how your dog needs care and attention

First off, have you had him fixed so he can't be a father? That will calm him down a bit, then get him some toys and play catch with him at least once a day. Walk him in the mornings before going to work, when you get home from work before dinner and a few times between dinner and bedtime. Also if you have a fenced in backyard let him out there to check it out since he will run around it looking for cats and other animals like squirrels and chipmunks that are invading his territory.

Apparently, your dog has a high energy level. Punishing him (shock collars) is NOT the way to go.
Try to find a local dog park, that way he can run off leash, play with other dogs (only if he's socialized), and release some pented up energy.
Take longer walks, include running. You can also look into adopting another dog as a companion. Get one around the same age, therefore they'll have similar energy levels. They'll play and wear each other out.
Take your dog to training classes for leash training! He shouldn't be pulling you.

Your dog has other issue's that your he is not able to communicate to you , and you are not helping matter's by shocking him , he does not understand why you are punishing him . You need to take control of things by becoming the Pack Leader because your dog thinks he is the boss .. you should check the site below , Cesar Millan , known as the dog whisperer has books and info on this type of behavior and I would say with out a doubt is an expert on what he does .
Classes are good for teaching your dog to sit or fetch but he has all that energy that needs to be taken care of by exercise , a proper diet and most of all you understanding more about what his needs are . This apply's to everyone in your family .
good luck

many answers to this question.all require time and work on HUMAN end. dog needs more time to run, play, walk, fetch, what ever it takes to wear him out. that's assuming dog is already trained on leash , and has been house trained.an inside pet kennel is best when you keep dog in kennel when your at work/school then let out as soon as you get home then feed and water (once a day) then is good time for training and using up all that energy .there is no short easy answer but most often its not the dogs fault its the owners. there is much more to owning a dog than just loving it.dogs and children are much the same.

What type of dog? some dogs are just very high in energy.
I have a friend and her dog gets all excited and upset really bad at times she has had to put him on nerve meds to get him to relax. When she goes away she always has a sitter for her dogs but he still is so worked up he will get sick so she will give him his meds to help him relax..But that is not always the answer.
Depending on your dog, maybe more play time outside where he/she can really run and get out all the energy.
Sorry I can not be of more help

I'm sure you've done this, but give him LOTS and LOTS of exercise. Just wear him down. Once he's officially tired you can put your obedience training to work.
Once we started giving our dog an abundant amount of exercise every day, not just a couple 20 minute walks, he has really turned into a new dog.
We go the dog park regularly, walk around town, through parks, daycare where he can play all day long etc.
best of luck

You probably just have a very active breed. Are you giving him enough exercise? My dog is almost 7 and has not slowed down at all since he was a pup. I have to spend at least an hour and a half a day running with him, throwing a ball with him, etc....anything to work off his energy. That's the only thing that works. (And it's a good excuse for you to get more exercise, too....I have lost several pounds since I acquired my dog !)

classes and shock collars won't calm a dog down! the only thing that will calm a dog down is intense exercise every. single. day. and not just a walk on the leash. the dog needs to run. if he can run with other dogs, even better. daycare is great if you can afford it, even two or three days a week at a daycare will make a huge difference in behavior. that is your only solution. please throw away that shock collar, they are cruel and pointless. if your dog is really tired, he will be calm.

More info is needed to address this question! What type of breed are we talking? If it's a lab or field dog, many of those don't 'grow up' or 'slow down' until about 3 years old. It's like they're "teenagers" for the first 2 1/2 years of their lives.
