I strongly disagree with people doing this. Why would you inflict pain on your child for the sake of 'fashion'? That's disgusting.

I really don't understand the it's better to get it done at a young age argument. It is not actually compulsory to have your ears pierced at any age.

Piercing ears is never medically necessary. It is a fashion decision. As for it being the mother's right to decide what is right for their child should that really extend to the mother having the right to decide to what extent they want to permanently injure them for the sake of fashion? And no I wouldn't have my son circumcised unless it was strictly medically necessary. But that is a whole other subject.

Oh and yes, I have my ears pierced, my mum let me get them done after much persuasion when I was twelve, when I was old enough to ask. She would never have caused me unnecessary pain as a baby. She is not that kind of mother.

absolutely....its cruel and inhumane
would you pinch your baby so hard she would cry
would you stick her with a knife until she bled
would you poke her with an ice pick
would you do anything purposely to hurt her.
she doesn't want the look of earrings YOU DO

i sumwhat agree.
i think it is wrong to peirce like a 6 week old baby's ears. besides, it doesn't look right, and they're still really young, so if there's an infection, it might be really dangourous for a baby that young.
if they're like 2-3, then i don't see a problem. i think it's kinda cute when i see little 3 year old girls with blonde curls a dress and sum cute earings =)

Sorry if i upset anyone - i do think that this is barbaric and i think it borders on abuse.
If anyone else went to stick a hole in your baby you would kill them!!
The right age is when a child has asked to have them pierced and when they understand what is involved, my mum caved when i was 8.

I think if ur going to put up a question like this ppl should be able to give their opinions with out being given thumbs up or down! its hardly a question if u already have the set answer in your head tht YOU believe is the right answer. should we all go by the way YOU think children should be brought up? i think every one who has made sarcastic comments on this post about ppl who allow their children to have their ears pierced at a young age, is very wrong because its up to the individuals to choose what they think is best for THEIR child. there is no manual tht comes with a child! I'm not saying its right or wrong but don't just give ppl thumbs down wen they give their own opinions! or there would be no point in this site. and NO i dont have a child with their ears pierced! just giving MY opinion! so go on give me the thumbs down! :)

i dont know what to think about this one. mainly because i got mine done when i was a few months old.. but that is part of my religion (hinduism) and i am from india. Many Indians pierce a child ear at i think 3 months 7 or 9 (boy and girl babies) and because girls usually want their ears pierces they make them wear an earring but for the boys they leave it.
the con for this is.. i am not religious (at all) but my parents follow customs and all... by they way i am now 14, and a girl.

I am not strongly against it but I don't see the point. My mom let me decide if and when I wanted to get them pierced. I was just a little girl of 5 or 6 but I remember being very nervious and scared but once I did it, it didn't even hurt like I thought it would and I was so proud of myself for going througth with it and got to feel like "a big girl". I'm glad my mom did it that way.

I think it looks both cheap tacky and is tantamount to child abuse, what your child does at 18 is upto them but dont inflict your flawed fashion sense on them let the child decide when its older, how would you fell if i came along and stuck a sharp object through your ear without giving you the option.
It should be law that piercing can not take place untill the child is old enough to decide for them self, also what you gonna do if the piercing becomes infected blame everyone else.
there is nothing worse than a baby in fake designer cloths with hoops thru its ears.

Yes I do. It looks atrocious for a start and immediately takes away the purity and innocence in the way they look. Parents should wait until their children are old enough to decide whether or not they actually want it done and have at least reached an age where it doesn't look totally ridiculous.

I use to work at a place that pierced ears. When I first started I would not pierce babies ears, I only started when they said they would fire me if I did not start. I personally do not like the way it looks. It is just one more thing to worry about. Babies pull on their ears and put things in their mouths.

I think that making a permanent change to your body should be your own decision and not the decision of the mother. It should be illegal. They baby is going to have to live with it and what if a mother wants to tattoo her baby? Where do you draw the line? And the one with the comment about telling twins apart...use a little nail polish on a toe if they look that much alike.
