my vet says he is vitamin A deficient. I have fed him vitamins and a different kind of food. It is working but so slowly. Is there anything more I can do to help him get his feathers back?

When birds pluck out their feathers it is due to stress or depression. Perhaps even parasites? Maybe the cage isn't big enough, any big changes, or he/she just doesn't get enough attention. Good luck.

could be ailment, grooming long previous uncontrolled; or some severe dominance habit. From a parrot internet site: "The smaller psittacines which incorporate budgerigars, the variety of grass parakeets and cockatiels do no longer pluck their feathers except there is an underlying scientific clarification for it." yet of direction, this is bearing on them plucking their very own feathers.

And my vet says it's not actually picking feathers off himself.
When I watch my bird, I see he regurgitates his food onto his chest. Whatever he doesn't eat up a 2nd time, dries into his feathers and that's what he's picking/cleaning.

Birds can be so gross ........... I'd get rid of mine but my daughter won't let me.

I think this is because he is stressed or depressed. birds, particulary birds from the parrot family need a lot of attention and intraction. leaving them in a small cage or a dark room would really affect their mental health.

not only could it be hes lacking vitimans, if he is plucking them, he might be stressed, or depressed. That is how birds deal. Try getting him a mate, or a fake bird to put on his perch, or a mirror, so he thinks there is another bird there...
