There is a guy. He works through our office but only comes in when he needs to pick up mail or see a client. He and I have gone out as friends and have been developing a closer relationship. One day, he came in and we made plans to go to dinner and do something else together after that. I couldn't do it that night - but told him that I really wanted to another time. Later that day he came in and spent an hour in my office talking with me. All was good. I knew my boss was having a fit over him being in my office so long, but I talked to my boss and worked an hour off the clock to make up the time. Now my friend rarely comes in while I am here and doesn't stop to visit. He will come in after hours. My boss will tell people I am on the phone - even when I am not - just to keep me at the grindstone. If my boss told my friend that I was very busy and asked that he not "bother" me - he would respect that. I can't call him to ask him right now - should I ask my boss if he said anything?

No, stay away from your boss on this subject..
Call your friend and tell him you are sorry about
your boss making things difficult in the office but
you would really like to see him outside the office
if he is still interested..
It is really your friends fault for creating this problem
in the first place due to his inappropriate behavior
in your office...

I'd stay off the topic with the boss. He was obviously annoyed, and I wouldn't pursue it any further. Ask you friend what was said by the boss when you get the chance. If you feel distressed about how the boss is treating you right now, I would approach him when there is a quiet time in the office and ask him if he is happy with your job performance - but again - I'd stay off the topic of your friend - unless he brings it up.

It sounds like you're using company work time to hook up with this guy. I think you should make plans to talk to him after work, not while you're getting paid. You aren't getting paid to talk to this guy, you're getting paid to work.

By saying you had to make up an hour for talking away a work hour shows how irresponsible you are on the job. You definitely should only talk to this person on breaks or outside of work. Your job isn't a place to have hour long conversations.

Also, you definitely shouldn't be asking your boss if your boyfriend is looking for you... sheesh.

Btw: I don't know the entire situation, so my advice might not be pertinent, but it sounds like you're being irresponsible.

You have to learn how to seperate your business and your pleasure. You should never mix business and pleasure but if you're dumb enough to, you have to know how to handle it. Your boss should have never noticed it. Leave it alone until you can talk to your friend, if anything you need to apologize to your boss for your behavior.

Ask the boss. You may be able to make "special arrangements" with him to make up for the error in your ways. Good times!!!
