Most breeds have a rescue branch where you can find pure bred cats, for a cheaper price than normal. They are usually adult cats that have to be rehomed usually through no fault of their own, or are retired breeding cats. I am sure you can find a pure breed rescue near to you on Yahoo or Google. Try 'Bengal rescue' or 'Ragdoll rescue' etc etc. to search for the breed you want.
$300 I am afraid is not enough to get a pure bred kitten from a good breeder. Back yard breeders will sell you a supposedly pure bred kitten for less, with no papers, no vaccinations and no health guarantee. The cats are often kept in less than adequate conditions, with money being the sole object. Please don't go down that route.
Your other option is to go your local rescue centre, they will have some beautiful cats and kittens that I am sure would be very grateful for a home.

Do a search in your area for breed specific rescues. You will get a decent price, if that is your main concern. Although, if money is an issue you might think real hard about a cat at all. Veterinary care can get expensive, especially if they develop an illness or other problem. Also, most rescues spay or neuter prior to adoption. So, if you pay $100 on average from a rescue you have a cat that is already fixed, and probably been to a vet to be tested for disease and possibly vaccinations. Especially since when you get a cat from a breeder that will all be done at your own expense. Please support your local shelters and rescues.

The amount you have available is not likely adequate for the breeds you mention.
I have worked for the SPCA and I would recommend a mixed breed animal as they have fewer genetically based health issues. You can choose/find an animal that resembles one of those specified above.
Additionally, you may wish to put this off another year or two. Even the best behaved child can potentially injure an animal without intent or end up getting scratched or bitten.
Please reconsider pet ownership at this time. If money is tight, getting a pet may not be the right answer. There are financial responsibilities with pet ownership that make make your budget impossible - especially if you do choose a pure bred versus a mutt.

What's wrong with saving a life and adopting from the local shelter? You're money would be much better spent that way. Many times shelters receive purebred cats, just let them know what you're looking for and many times, they'll contact you.
Most of those cats you've mentioned are out of that $300 price range by a long shot.

In the purebred world you get what you pay for. My cats can start at $500, but my kittens are usually around $850. You can find purebred cats for around $300 but they more then likely backyard breeders. They wont be socialize, fed properly, and have recieved little to no vet care.

Please try some shelters. There are also shelters just for purebred animals, though the adoptions fees are usually higher, prob about what you're willing to spend. If you find one from a breeder for very cheap, I would not recommend it. Believe me, I have seen enough cats from breeders, some of them cost thousands of dollars, that are ridiculously sick, parasitic, and sometimes so sick they are euthanized as kittens. I most certainly would not recommend one that is very cheap, and I wouldn't recommend too many of them at all. Saving a life is priceless.

I have a Himalayin, which I paid $250 for. I got her from a breeder and she wasn't "show" quality, so I was able to get her cheaper. Otherwise they range from $800 to $2000!! I would try to find local breeders of the kind you are looking for and go from there.

You can check the local rescues & shelters, as Maine Coon & Maine Coon mixes are rather popular.

If you are dealing with a reputable breeder then $500 is going to be his cost for that kitten. The breeder has to pay stud fees, vet bills, vaccinations, registration fees, etc.
