One of my puppy people (buyer) swears by this food. He fed it to his old (now gone) dog and she lived a healthy life to the ripe age of 15 years.
Science Diet is recommended by vets because Hill's pays/rewards them for recommending it (the vet I used to work for was given a week-long cruise vacation for selling the most in a given time period). It uses corn as a primary ingredient, and corn is a cheap carbohydrate and a filler. Stick with the holistic/meat-based foods.
If you can afford to feed it, go for it!

Blue Buffalo is a good food, and I would also recommend Natural Balance. The only problem that I have with either brand is that in may area they can be hard to get. The stores carry it, but not enough for everyone who buys it. You may just want to keep an extra bag available so if the store is out you will not be in need of the food immediately.
I have fed both of the brands, and my favorite is the Natural Balance but I really like the Blue too. The Blue seems to be more appealing to the dogs than the Natural, but they tend to eat too much of it.
Science Diet, Eukanuba, and Iams are not good foods. When you purchase it you are just buying the name. I would not recommend any of those brands.
I would not recommend rotating the brands of dog food. It will cause unnecessary digestive upsets and even if they appear fine it will stress the immune system making them more prone to disease. All dog foods are tested to as nutritionally complete as possible.

Blue Buffalo is good...but you can use any of the natural/holistic foods out there. Iams Large Breed Puppy is good and Wellness is similar (though I don't think Wellness has a large breed puppy formula). It really just depends on how much you want to spend and what's avaliable in your area...some foods can be difficult to find.

Blue buffalo is great but hard to find. try www.petfooddirect.com and look for foods that have the first five ingredients listed as whole, real identified foods and start with meat. No meals, no by products and certainly nothing listed just as 'meat'.
Companies like timberwolf organics and newmans own are also using organic ingredients that are a good choice for your dog.

I agree. Science Diet is perhaps the worst brand on the market. Vets get rewarded for selling it/recommending it. Blue Buffalo is a great brand, but can often be hard to find. If you can find it, it's good food. Other brands are just as good, and may be easier to find. If you have a hard time getting your hands on Blue Buffalo, you can try Canidae, Wellness and Innova Evo (however, you will want to wait until they are a bit older to feed Innova, as it can make puppies grow to quickly for their bone structure). The best diet is a rotational one, rotating the brands above every few months. Most high caliber foods have websites with store locations on them. Here are some:
www.canidae.com
www.naturapet.com (Innova)
www.oldmotherhubbard.com (Wellness)
Good luck, and good job doing your research on food!! Your pups will thank you for it by living a long, healthy life.

Blue Buffalo is one of the premier dog foods and if it were available in my area, I would feed it.
It is manufactured in only two plants and has the highest level of ingredients. One of the best foods in the country. Just read the label and you will discover that meat is the primary ingredient. It is also easy to digest and dogs love it!

Blue Buffalo is great. Science diet is crap in a bag. Vets are not required to take nutrition classes to be certified, so don't ask a vet.

also look at canidae if you can find it, my pup absolutly LOVES it. it was funny because my mom's dog eats wellness chow mixed with a can of wet (she has kidney problems) but when my dog was visiting and eating all the older dogs food, she was having stomach upsets, so i brought some of her own food (kibble only) the next time and my mom's dog ate it all the minute i put it down!

Blue Buffalo is a wonderful brand. I feed it to my cat, and I have heard nothing but good results, from other pet owners, when they use that brand.
