I seriously doubt it. And if you're "borrowing" something; you probably shouldn't be altering it. Check at David's Bridal if you really need something else; they usually have that $99 sale going on.

I'm sure a good dress maker would be able to add a panel if it needed it!
Are you sure you're not just having a bit of the jitters about the whole thing? I'm getting married in a month aswell and I did the same with my bridesmaid dresses. I picked them and paid for them, then when I went to a friends wedding about a month ago I decided I liked her dresses better and that I didn't like the ones I'd already paid for. I ended up getting another two b/maid dresses from an American shop online. They didn't have the same colour so I had to change my theme and it's all got really stressful!
You've probably seen your friends dress on her, seen how lovely she looked in it and you want to look just as good, but that doesn't mean your dress isn't as nice or won't make you look just as nice in it! That just means your friend picked the right dress!
Are you really sure you don't like the one you have? Try and remember the reasons why you picked that one in the first place.
Good luck. I hope you get what you want!!

First, I don't think that I would want to wear another woman's wedding dress (unless it was my mom or grandma) that just seems so...wrong. Wedding dresses are sacred, to be shared by the bride and groom as it's the dress the bride officially "gives" herself to her husband in. That's just my thought. Also, have you totally paid for your dress? I'm not as thrilled about my dress now either especially since I saw one that I would DIE if I could have, but I've paid for my dress and when I put it on the first time, I cried so I "knew" it was the right dress. Third, the rule of thumb is a dress can be sized up or down by two sizes (depending on the make and cut of the dress) so chances are that yes, it can be let out to fit you. Finally, what are you going to do with the dress after you wear it? Return it? Obviously neither of you will wear the dress again, but perhaps your friend's daughter or granddaughter will. I don't know, just seems weird to me. Why don't you look into renting one from a shop as opposed to showing up in the same dress your friend wore (with potentially some of the same guests) in her wedding? Whatever you do, good luck.

I was told by an alterations specialists that dresses can be altered two sizes in either direction, so it sounds like you probably could have the dress altered to fit you.
Consider this, though, do you really want your wedding to look like your friend's wedding? It should be a reflection of you. The dress may have looked wonderful on her, and complemented every part of her wedding. it may not do the same for you.
What do you not like about the dress that you chose? If you haven't had it for very long, you may be able to take it back and choose another dress (one that wouldn't need a lot of alterations because you don't have a lot of time). Call the store/dressmaker where you got your dress and see if that is possible.

I found a dress when I only had about a month to plan for my wedding (hubby and I moved it up, and only gave ourselves a very short time to plan) and I found a gorgeous dress at David's Bridal. They had to hurry everything along for me, but luckily I liked a dress in store and they were able to alter it in time.
Are you sure you want to go through all that though? I'm sure you look stunning in your current dress! I would not recommend altering up from a size 9 to 12... it's really not a huge change, but the fabric on a dress fits so snug, you'd be getting a whole different dress back.
Good luck!

I dont think you will be able to let that dress out. there is too much of a difference in the size, sorry sweetie. But if you dont like your dress, you may be able to have your dress altered to your liking. If you have the funds to change a dress though - In this short time frame, I would think going somewhere like Davids Bridal and spending $100 - $200 on a dress may be your best bet. They have deals all of the time. If you live near a city (like San Francisco), I know there are warehouses that have major sales on great dresses, you just have to look online. Good Luck!!

The only way to find out is to contact a local tailor and take it in with you and have them look at it and your specific measurements. It also depends on how the dress was made (some company's allow more in their seems for sizing then others.) Also ask the tailor about adding beading, sashes or other things that could change the look of the dress a bit to make it your own.

you have plenty of time to get another dress, 1 that will fit, remember it's your wedding day. A day when you should feel like a queen, therefore you must be comfortable. Get a size12 dress and a comfortble shoe. Alterations cant help ok. Probably you donot want to hurt your friend by not wearing the dress but if it cant fit it just cant.

You can do whatever you like...it's your wedding. However, letting out the dress 3 full sizes is not going to look right...if you want another dress, start looking ASAP and keep in mind that it may not come in in time for your wedding...keep your original for a back up.

No I don't think they can let it out that much. When I got my dress they said that there is usually about 1-1.5 inches on each side to work with. that's kinda cutting it close. Besides the last thing you wanna do is chop up someone else's wedding dress. Maybe you could go on a crash diet. Really limit your carbs, and run every morning. Then you could prob. get into it.

From my experience, you would be shocked how much a good seamstress can do to alter a dress. It will change the way your friend's dress looks though, and you might not like the change. Why not have your dress altered to add some of the features you like about the friend's dress: add/remove straps, sew on sequins, etc.
