A friend of mine went to the Airport and was shocked by a question from the Immigration officer regarding a missing page in the passport. He was travelling to the United States with a Valid B1/B2 Visa. Though the Visa page is safe, the immigration officer refused to approve since a page was missing.
Now, what should be the next step ? Does he need to get a new passport and go for US Consulate again to get a new Visa ? Or, a new passport with the Visa in the existing passport would suffice ?

Since the travel is of high priority, Any quick answers is highly appreciated.

he needs a new passport . i don't know how he didn't know a page was missing ...maybe something was on the page that the immigration officer should not see....
if i would be him i would also get a new visa because it can happen to him again . Or he can let the US -Embassy approve his "old " visa .

He should check with the passport office in that area. If a new passport is required, a tatkaal may be the best option (i got it the next day).
Also, the visa can be in the old passport, make sure to carry it along with the new one. If possible, get a letter signed by the respective passport officer stating why a new passport was issued, in case the immigration official at the port of entry in the US gets suspicious

The immigration officer was legally compliant. Though he could have used his discretionary powers and determined that it is enough grounds to deny admission to the country. It is purely his choice. Nevertheless, any change / damage to one's passport must be corrected first by the issuing country. If a new passport is issued, you may need new visas also. This is not always true. India allows use of visas in earlier passports (if they have not expired or revoked) if presented along with non-visa-bearing new passports.
