I have to do a presentation on three professional photographs and explain things such as contrast (color, tone, shape, light vs. dark, focus vs. blurriness, silhouettes, colors (ie. primary colors, monochromatic etc.), convergence of lines (leading lines), repitition of shape or pattern, symmetry & balance, framing (rule of 3rds) and is the photo a moment frozen in time? I know this sounds lik a lot, but I really have no clue where to start. If anyone could just give me a few ideas, I'd be so greatful, because honestly I know nothing about photography. The three pictures I selected are at the following links:

http://photoawards.com/06/contests/winners_detail.asp?id=29780

http://photoawards.com/06/contests/winners_detail.asp?id=24062 --> It is the last picture on the page

Thank You!!

Okay...I'm not going to do your assignment for you (sorry) - but I will give you a suggestion as to how you can approach it (i.e. how to start). Write all the terms down that you mention in your question. Then spend some time writing down the definition of each term. Just do some research and write them down as best you can. After you do that, create a grid - put each term down the left side and then a label for each photo along the top. Than go down the list, look at each photo and for each item, ask yourself these questions -

-- Is this element present?
-- How has the photographer used this element (or what does this element do to the photo)
-- Was the photographer successful? - a very subjective questions
-- How could they have done it better?

Write your answers in each box on the grid...and you will be done. I feel for you... while photography is fun to study, I'm not sure I would want to analyze it this much.... Good luck!

well i can help with the artistic principles. the fish one obviously has no contrast, its monochromatic, and has repitition of pattern. the second has contrast (with the bright orange vs. black), it has both symmetry & balance. the third i like the best hehe it obviously has contrast as well, with the light gray of the horse vs. the black BG, leading lines, since the horse is so starkly outlined, and id say its a moment frozen in time (more obviously than the others anyways) because of the horses mane and the drops of water in mid-air.

sorry i dont know what the rule of 3's is-its familiar but i just cant remember....

hope i helped!!

Wait a tic . . . if you say you know nothing about photography, then what the hell are you doing the presentation for?

OH yea, and just wing it :)
