I adopted a dachshund from a rescue and he has been abused in the past you can just tell. I was told he was house trained and for the most part he is. But he is developing a habit of going in my house. I take him out the same time everyday and feed him the same time everyday. His routine is the same. He goes in the house about 15 min. before he is scheduled to go out. What can I do to train him better?

If he always goes fifteen minutes before your scheduled time change your schedule. Maybe he can't wait as long as you expect him to. If you can't do that then try crate training, most dogs will not soil where they sleep. Also, a trip to the vet might be in order. He could have a bladder or kidney infection that is causing him to lose control.

One thing that might help is to let him out as soon as he is done eating. If you have the space in the yard, put out a tie down (stake with a leash basically) and as soon as he is finished eating, put him outside for about an hour; that should cover the old schedule and the 15 minute early schedule. it will also give him a chance to get used to his new surroundings and mark his territory--outside! dachshunds are pretty tricky to train, I've tried!

If you do leave him outside for extended periods of time make sure that he can stay warm. I persoanlly think pet clothes are rediculious but these dogs get cold quickly and easily, a sweater would not be a bad idea.

Take him out a few minutes earlier than "scheduled". It will take patience with an older dachshund, especially an abused one.

Just start all over as if he were not housebroken at all, put down papers for when he has an accident. I am sure he wants to please you but is still very confused about the rules.

Bless you for taking in a rescue!

As an adoped parent of three dachshunds who were never abused, I can assure you that "going" in the house is standard behavior for male dachshunds. They are very territorial, being the mighty hunting dogs that they were bred to be, and they are staking out their claim by marking in the house. Unfortunately, you have to really watch them and catch them before they do their business. I don't advocate electric collars or other forms of abuse.

I am a enormous fan of crate coaching to support with potty coaching. A puppy is not going to potty in a appropriately sized crate. When they're up and out, you have to take dog out: instantly upon waking quarter-hour after consuming or ingesting quarter-hour after energetic play each 60-ninety mins if you have not had her out for every other rationale above final factor earlier than crating at night time Also, get a relatively well enzyme purifier to scrub up the messes within the residence in order that she can not get the addiction of going again to the scent while she does have a mishap. Good success!

Dachshunds are wonderful pets. I have several of them. I think that maybe yours will "come around" so t ospeak, after a few weeks of being with you. Dachshunds are nervous type dogs and dont always adapt to change easily. Mine started peeing in the house when we moved to our new place. He got over it in a few weeks and was back to normal again.

Thanks for adopting him. I really think you will enjoy him alot. He will bring you lots of joy and love you very much.

Make a good bond with the dog before you start to train... He wont listen if he does not trust you
