I had mine done at 18 I was so happy at first but..... It never healed properly after a year It still swoll up filling my whole mouth during the night and always oozed puss it went it came back like a vicious circle so I took it out after a year I figured it just wasnt meant to be. Now even though were more than 5years tongue still has a huge lump in it and occasionally swells still. Now this isnt an average reaction then again neither is paralasys which can also happen from getting a tongue ring. Whatever you decide realise its a gamble even with the best place doing it I had mine dome in MONTREAL in a world renowned place it didnt save me from the negative results

1. infection of your tongue.
2.chipped and broken back teeth, because people develop a habit of biting the bar-ball.
3. change in the line-up of the front teeth, because people develop a habit of sucking on the ball.
4. change in the speaking pattern, cause you mess up the tongue muscle.

if that is not enough.. people don't take seriously individuals with piercings, so if you will try to apply for a good job (for example) they would not consider you for a position even if you qulify.

If you take care of it you should be fine. However, you may risk breaking teeth if you don't pay attention when you chew.

You can chip your teeth, and I also find it to be a turn-off.

You mean besides looking like an idiot? I would think that would be enough.
