hes being overly stimulated. Sometimes petting a cat on its back and in certian areas are more sensitive. Especially if he has dry skin under the hair. This makes his skin even more itchy and the only way he can release that pent up feeling is to chew himself. Kinda like when you get a horrible scratch and finally itch it you sigh in relief. Cats sigh in a diffrent way, running around, biting, yowling, purring. Sometimes Static electricity will build up in the hair from you petting to fast and vigorously, especially during winter when its dry. The electricity in the fur can cause a very strange tingling sensation for the cat. Sometimes being too much for him to handle so he begins to chew himself or you. Just maybe increase some oils into his diet and try not to pet too hard or for too long, but its no big deal as long as hes not hurting you or himself.
