I want to buy my gf jewelry with a pink diamond because it's her favorite color, but they are extremely expensive since they only exist maybe 1% out of all the diamonds out there. I have found out that there are these new man made diamonds, also called "synthetic" or "cultured" diamonds that can be made pink. The news says that these are actually REAL diamonds (not zirconium or the other fake stuff) made by scientists that can replicate the natural process in a lab. Also, since they are man made, there is no chance of them being "blood diamonds".

Has anyone ever purchased on of these diamonds and if so where? Even though people can make them, they seem to all be sold out because the cost savings are huge!

Please note, I am not too interested on whether you feel these diamonds are "real" or not. The fact is that scientifically they are one and the same and will pass 3rd party certification. I am more interested if someone has bought one and where, because they are very hard to get your hands on, whether they are naturally occuring or man made.

I also appreciate the people who have noted buying jewelry with other pink stones. This is very helpful, thanks.

My only hesitation would be that those diamonds look awfully dark in color, I think real pink diamonds are very light pink almost just tinged with color not really absorbed with it. As seen in the side stones on this ring http://www.lussori.com/pink-diamond-engagement-ring.html

Here is a picture of a cultured pink diamond http://www.takaradiamonds.com/ and as you see the color is much deeper, which might be a tip off that the stone isnt really a "real" diamond and might even be mistaken for a pink sapphire ring seen here http://gilletts.com.au/index.php?cPath=21_206

That would be my only issue with the man made vs real

I have one and I was extremely disappointed with it. It's doesn't sparkle like a diamond and it doesn't look like a real pink diamond. I have 2 one from eBay and I can't remember where the other one came from.... but both look the same. I actually have a huge pink zircon and it looks a 100% better- it was purchased at an OK jewelry store like Gordon's and it was a couple hundred dollars so it's a High level zircon.

I would personally get her the diamond you can afford center stone and have pink zircons set on the side of it... so she gets the best of both worlds. Jeweler will be able to get you nice zircons (not cheap walmart looking ones).

Actually I do have a pink Sapphire as mention above- and that's is lovely. And if you set diamonds around it- WOW!

No, not a pink diamond. However, I have a pink topaz with diamonds on the sides and it is actually very beautiful. It's a dress ring, but would be a beautiful engagement ring.
Watch your words and definitions about the pink diamonds - manmade anything is not REAL, because it is not from the earth, as a real, natural diamond is.

My fiance had his heart set on a pink diamond engagement ring, but the jewler he worked with encouraged him to use a regular diamond and accent it with pink stones...

The concern the jewler had was that many people think the pink is a vibrant color when in fact it is a pale pink...

My ring is beautiful and the pink accents were so special because he knew it was something i would love...

Be creative and design something special and unique

I would suggest pink sapphires as an alternative, they are natural stones and any natural stone is better than a fake stone. Pink sapphires are much more reasonably priced
