Because unforgiveness weighs you down and pierces your soul. It also feels good to forgive, that feeling you have when you get over yourself and delve into what really matters. Also we can't expect God to forgive us our sins against Him if we cannot forgive those who have wronged us.

Not just spiritually, but physically. Hate can grow in a person until that hate completely consumes someone. Forgiving someone who has wronged you is better for you, you can move past the incident instead of letting it fester inside you like a blister. Forgiveness is great for the soul. And makes things new again and it lifts that problem from you and your thoughts.

Forgiveness is never a gift you give to the offender. It Never says that what they did is acceptable and ok. It is simply a relaease from your own pain that you are harboring. For you to forgive says that you will no longer hang on to the pain that someone else has deposited into your life. To withold forgiveness will never affect the offender, but it will continue to eat at you.
Forgiveness is for the forgiver, not the offender.

Unforgiveness is harder on the person withholding it than the person it's being withheld from. It is a waste of your own energy to hold something against another person. The other person isn't as affected as much by it as you are. Also, the Bible teaches that if we don't forgive others, God will not forgive us. And after what God gave and Jesus suffered in order for us to be forgiven, who do we think we are to withhold forgiveness from others. Do we see the acts of others against us as less deserving of our forgiveness than our sins against God?

Because the idea that there is anything to forgive is a product of judgment. Judgment is the major impediment to spiritual growth.
As long as we are seeing something that needs to be forgiven it means that we are still judging.

truefully you don't need to consider forgiveness all the time as an religous thing its more like an common thing in life to try and forgive people, if you don't forgive a person your just given the person an advantage knowing that they got the best of you.

It is important for several reasons. First, for our own sakes. To carry a grudge against someone is damaging to us because it festers inside and creates all sorts of emotional problems. Second, it is important to others because it gives them the opportunity to change without being judged by us. And last but most important, it is for God. He has forgiven us and has commanded that we forgive others.

Great Anglican poet and Priest George Herbert said it best:
"He who cannot forgive breaks the bridge over which he himself must pass."
Unforgiveness is first and foremost an unloving transgression against my own being. It clogs up my "channel" to loving God and my neighbor as myself.
I hate that word "channel" - but - you get my meaning.

If we don't forgive we are harboring hate in our hearts.
This is why Jesus said if we can't forgive others, God can't forgive us. We must love others, and not hate.
However that don't mean we have to trust those that have done us wrong.

In Christianity and Islam (not sure about Judaism), we hope to be forgiven for our transgressions on Judgment Day. We should forgive as much as we hope to be forgiven on Judgment Day.
