Whip your shortening. Add a little bit of heavy cream, add powdered sugar until you reach you desired consistency. If you can get your hands on some butter that you be better. You could do 1/2 shorten 1/2 butter, cream together until light and fluffy, then add powdered sugar until it is your desired consistency. Or you could do jello and the whipping cream. Whip the cream to soft peaks, add the jello then whip to stiff peaks. I hope this gives you a few options to choose from.

You are probably getting this message too late, but if not, here you go.
Just take a few tablespoons of shortening, a few cups of powdered sugar, about 1 tsp. of vanilla (if you have it), and beat with a mixer. Add milk as needed, but just a little at a time. If you want chocolate frosting, add some cocoa powder.
I make frosting all the time, and this is delicious and easy! You don't need the whipping cream, I'd stick with plain old milk. Good luck and have fun.

Put the heavy whipping cream in a bowl and mix it for 3 minutes. Then slowly add about a cup of powdered sugar while mixing for another 1-2 minutes.
This creates whipped cream, but I do this all the time for cake.

You can make icing with as few ingredients as powdered sugar and a few tablespoons of water. I've never heard of using shortening, but butter makes a wonderful flavour (butter-cream frosting) and so does combining cream cheese and vanilla with your powdered sugar.
Get creative, but just go very gradual with the wet, stirring in drops of water and mixing very well til you get the right consistency.

When I need a recipe for something fast, and I don't have a cookbook, I usually will always have access to a computer, so I look up what I need at bettycrocker.com. Or if it's that important go buy the pre-made kind......who's gonna know except you? (and sometimes you can find coupons!) You can always buy vanilla frosting and buy other flavoring to go in it. Good Luck!

maybe mix the sugar and shortening 1:1 maybe, taste it, see if its the right consistancy
then mix a lager batch of it
I think maybe frosting like that is nasty and not good for you anyway
maybe just make the cake plain or just a little powdered sugar
